To ask whether you lost weight when coming off hormonal contraception?

Particularly progesterone only methods (implant, mini pill)?

I’m not overweight but I’ve certainly found whilst being on the implant my weight has gone up and down more than it would have done previously and for the last 6 months the GP has had me taking Cerazette at the same time to control bleeding etc.

In these last months I’ve definitely found that the things I’d usually do to drop a few pounds and get a bit more trim (I am sure lockdown doesn’t help!) aren’t working and it’s really frustrating.

I finally had my Nexplanon out last week so I suppose I’m just looking for a bit of hope that weight loss might be easier now!

You hear horror stories of people putting on 3 stone when they went on the implant but hardly anything about weight loss afterwards!

I didn't, but for me coming off hormonal contraception was just after breaking up from a long term relationship. I no longer felt pressure to stay in shape and was free to eat whatever I wanted... And I did exactly that.
I don't regret any of that pizza, and I can lose a few lbs that same way I could before now it's been a while.

No.

There isn't any real evidence that hormonal contraception causes weight gain. My doctor told me this for years and I didn't believe her.

I came off contraception to see and it made no difference to my weight at all.

Callmedolly · 16/07/2020 19:28

Nope, (but I wish!) Sorry OP

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/07/2020 19:32

Nope. Stopped cerazette for a year and a bit. Nothing. Actually put on...

It is a myth. As with pp my doctor also told me. She said I can have cravings at the begining, but that's it.

No, just harder to shift weight as we age unfortunately

BaseDrops · 16/07/2020 19:34

I and a number of women I know got fat on progesterone only. Weight came off when off it.

LadyPrigsbottom · 16/07/2020 19:35

Another one who gained weight after coming off mini pill 😩.

I went on it as I was bfing. Stayed slim. Stopped bfing, gained weight. Came off pill, gained some more weight. I hate the mini pill anyway, due to other side effects, so I'm now on no hormonal contraception and am fighting to lose weight. It's coming off slowly, but sadly don't think it was anything to do with the pill!

Yes slightly and my boobs weren't so swollen when come of it
