Might be paranoia, but I feel there's a lot more threads on here pitting Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Republic of Ireland against the English.
Could obviously just be trolls (no better bait, I suppose), but as Brexit lumbers on and nears its end do you think we should all be mindful that there may be people planted here to sew discord? It can be very evident in sites like Reddit sometimes, so why not MN.
It's not beyond the realms of belief that this is happening, though if lockdown has finally sent me gaga do feel free to call me out :)

Or perhaps people are just agog at England being so determined to ruin itself, dragging Scotland, Wales, and NI along with it.

Unless you are disaster capitalist, you'll be fucked come January.

No, sorry I didn't explain myself properly. I mean posts not even related to Brexit! Goading my country is doing better than your country Corona posts etc. Maybe this has always gone on, it just seems worse lately!

I’ve always felt everyone hates english people! Long before brexit!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/07/2020 22:22

Just with regards to Brexit briefly, Wales also voted to leave but the way people talk you think it was just England.

As for English hate, it’s very much real.
Proud Scot= Proud Scot
Proud English = BNP / EDL

I assume it’s because it’s the largest of the 4 nations and holds London- London hate is even bigger!

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 14/07/2020 22:50

Do you think you’ve just noticed because it’s anti-English, or perceived to be?

I’m Scottish, there’s a huge anti-Scottish sentiment on MN at times. Largely from a English posters.

Just have a look at any Scottish independence thread or any thread regarding Scottish politics really. Many English posters come charging in to tell us we’re scrounges and they’re sick of paying for us (Hmm)

Have you noticed this?

Finerumpus · 14/07/2020 22:54

You’re not wrong OP. There is even lots of ‘I am ashamed of what we’ve become’ anti-English sentiment amongst the right type of English person when commenting on their embarrassing countrymen.
Anyone who dares describe the U.K. as a country is rounded on.

I'm really not explaining myself properly! I wasn't talking about posts that are necessarily anti-English, just posts that are goady about each of the countries I mentioned and designed to sew discord. Like I read some of the replies and wonder does the poster actually really believe what they're saying. Maybe it's that I'm consuming so much more social media but online everyone seems so riled up about (Brexit/ Scottish Independence/ NI Border Poll), but in real life everyone rubs along nice and polite.
The working/squeezed middle of UK, NI, and ROI all have more in common than not. Just online we all seem to be awful to each other! And I have just watched the Brexit film on Netflix with Domenic Cumber-??? So I am now convinced he has shills posting here to stir the pot!
