A parking thread (with a bit extra)

I probably am unreasonable, but everyone loves a parking thread right?

We live in a popular, family-oriented and well-to-do part of a city. At the end of our road of about 50 or so houses is a discreet brothel. No flashy lights, it looks mostly like a normal home, and it closes at 7pm. It specialises in the more mature offering. I’ve been on the website, it’s something else.

Anyhow, one of the women working there has a very distinct look - think OTT Bette Gilroy here - and drives an equally distinctive car. She has started parking this car at our end of the road, the opposite end to her work. Despite there being space closer. The houses are 1920s semis with no parking, so her parking there causes some problems for those who live here (I’ve asked to convert the front garden to a drive, we’re not allowed).

More significantly, not-Bette and her car is a bit of a sight to behold for the young families. Our neighbour with two under 5 boys wants our support in asking the woman to park closer to her work / away from our houses. I can see why she’s not comfortable.

AIBU to not offer our support even though it’ll damage neighbourly relations?

AIBU - support your neighbour
AINBU - what does it matter where she works / parks

@Merryoldgoat

The comment about leopard print was in response to a question of what her car looked like, not her clothing.

I said her car was distinctive. A leopard print car is really quite distinctive. Or do you know many accountants with leopard print cars?

Unless she's handling punters in the car, I don't see how a car parked legally on the street every day is a problem? How does "your neighbour" think her children seeing this specific car every day will impact them at all?

Merryoldgoat · 14/07/2020 21:19

My mistake regarding the leopard print - I thought you were referring to her clothes.

Laaalaaaa · 14/07/2020 21:19

Can you only have a leopard print car if you’re a prostitution? Is it exclusive to the profession? My friend who is a senior accountant was advised by senior management to change her car as she had to do client visits - the car was barbie pink. She did not change it.

Your subtext is clear, OP. You're not fooling anyone, stop digging an even bigger whole for yourself.

Biancadelrioisback · 14/07/2020 21:21

I don't believe for one second she has a leopard print car with pink alloys. I call bull on that one.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/07/2020 21:21

Love that you’ve said Bet Gilroy rather than
Lynch.

Shows your viewing choice.

Pljeskavica · 14/07/2020 21:21

@Merryoldgoat

The word you’re looking for is “sorry”.

But I enjoy the irony of you complaining about my judgement whilst judging a comment you didn’t fully read.

Grin or maybe showing my age!

Does the car have something offensive written on it that would corrupt the morals of young children? Giant dildo on the bonnet? If not then I can’t really see the problem If the kids are curious about the ott lady walking down the street mum should just tell them that people can dress / drive however they want and that we don’t judge.

betteliefsen · 14/07/2020 21:25

Somehow I don't think this thread is going to have a happy ending.

Merryoldgoat · 14/07/2020 21:25

Nope. I’m not sorry. I made a mistake. I’m not sorry for it.

And my comments about you being judgemental are completely separate from how I’m perceived - I AM judgemental. Just about different things from you.

I judge people who are superficial, mean, vicious, and sly. All things you are displaying in your posts.

Pljeskavica · 14/07/2020 21:29

@Merryoldgoat

And yet you’re the person here who jumped to erroneous assumptions about me which were mean, superficial and vicious.

I’ve made no comments about you as a person, just your comments, as I’m not that basic

This! With bells, fluorescent lights and a leopard print background.

If she’s legally parked, your neighbour doesn’t have a pearl clutching leg to stand on, sorry.

TheRealHousewife · 14/07/2020 21:29

I remember an era on MN where this kind of post provoke a bit of giggle & pearl clutching.... where has all the fun gone?

wewillmeetagain · 14/07/2020 21:29

Omg I want a leopard print car Smile

This'll be one of those threads that goes up in a flurry of magic dust Wink

Pljeskavica · 14/07/2020 21:31

@TheRealHousewife

Me too. We’ve lost our ability to simply enjoy.

Merryoldgoat · 14/07/2020 21:32

Sure. You crack on OP. I’d rather be basic than a shallow twit.

Biancadelrioisback · 14/07/2020 21:32

What are you wanting to enjoy?

picklemewalnuts · 14/07/2020 21:35

I'm trying to imagine being faced with the same situation. How liberal and non judgemental would I feel about a very distinctive, highly decorated car, driven by a vampishly dressed woman who I know is a sex worker, regularly parking outside the home of my young children.

I honestly don't know. Which way are you leaning, OP?

MidnightCitrus · 14/07/2020 21:37

Is this it?

A parking thread (with a bit extra)
Pljeskavica · 14/07/2020 21:39

@MidnightCitrus

Not quite, but not too far off. I never thought I’d say this but the print is softer than that, more gold coloured.
