Vented Masks for "personal protection" ONLY

I saw a news item yesterday where they were going on about masks and people's responsibility to protect eachother.

At least half of the people they showed were wearing ones with a plastic vent. The vent allows you to breathe out unhindered. It's just your unfiltered breath.

So, whilst the wearer is somewhat protected, it offers no protection for anyone else.

I wonder, do wearers realise this?

Sounds like a good idea, if a mask protects the user rather than those around them people are more like to wear them.

The problem at the moment is we're told masks only protect others, not the wearer.

If everyone wear masks everyone is protected.

They have filters and layers underneath the vent

If everyone wear masks everyone is protected.

Yes but to a far, far lesser extent than if people wear non vented Masks.
