To return sofa that’s creaking loudly after 2 days?

It was cheap £325 (although it says the RRP is £600- I don’t believe that!) and it’s a small 2 seater fabric sofa. Got it for dining room online (won’t say the name of company)

Had it delivered 2 days ago and I’ve hardly sat on it. DH has a little, but this afternoon he changed positions on it and it started creaking loudly.

I then sat on it and moved up and down on it and it’s creaking both when you sit down, stand up or move to much on it. It seems to be one side at the min, but that’s the side DH has been sitting on.

Part of me thinks it serves me right for buying a cheap sofa and it won’t be worth the hassle/charges for pick up to send it back etc.... and to get DH to have a look underneath.

Then the other part of me thinks, no, £325 is a lot of money and it could be faulty. It shouldn’t be creaking like that after two days!! It’s the principle.

Would you complain about it or not bother?

Talk to their customer service and see if they'll take it back. You don't want a sofa you won't sit on!

I work in customer service for a furniture company. If you get in touch with them, they should offer to have someone to inspect it to see whether it is a manufacturing fault (this is at their expense as within 6 months of purchase). If it is, they can send a replacement or you can return for a full refund.

I would make a complaint first and see what happens. I don't suppose they would send someone out to try and fix it at that price. But they might be able to replace it or offer you a partial refund so you could pay to get it fixed.
But like you say it's still a lot of money for it to creak like that every time you move!

Good luck!

I say all this as someone who has waited 5 months for a new sofa to arrive and hoping it's going to be okay when it finally gets here!

How heavy are you both?

I saw a program once about a very fat woman who bought a normal sofa but it broke when she sat on it. She was over 20st and the sales assistant never warned her she was too fat so she managed to get a refund

Talk to customer services - unless it said it was reduced because of creaking.. which it doesn't sound like it was!

I meant to say on my OP that I’m about 9st 4 and DH hasn’t got an ounce if fat on him. Would be lucky if he’s 11.5 stone.
