Toddler pooing at night

Really need advice. My 20 month old keeps pooing at night. He does it a couple of times a week and unless he wakes, I don't discover it until morning then feel terrible he's been in a dirty nappy all night. A couple of nights ago he woke up with a really sore bum.

Is it normal for toddlers to poo at night? He never used to. I find myself not sleeping in case he poos 🤦‍♀️

My DD went through this when she was around that age too. I'd check her nappy before I went to bed then set my alarm for 3am I think it was, to check her again. If she had pooed I'd stealthily change her. It stopped any future sore bums. She also grew out of that midnight poop phase after a couple months. GL!

We're out of nappies now and put her on the potty between 12 and 2 every night (she doesn't wake up properly). She never pooed in her nappy at night and has never done a poo in the bed (yet) but quite often does do one during the midnight potty sesh. So I don't think it is that weird really. Do you know what time he does it?
