Hi all

quick one as I'm feeling indecisive! last week, I arranged to meet someone from a Facebook swapping group tonight to give her a bulky garden item at the station about 20 mins walk and bus from me. The exchange is kind of a token swap from her as I was happy to get the big item out of the way.

She's got a pretty long journey but hasn't confirmed since last week. I messaged her and tried to call on FB and she isn't reachable. I don't know if this means she's already on her way.

Just not really sure whether to go as it feels a bit unusual that she hasn't confirmed on the day for a long journey.

I know it's not a massive deal but it will be a pain to carry all the way there and back if she doesn't show.

Would you say agreeing last week should be enough and I should assume she's on her way?

YABU: assume shes on her way and go to the station
YANBU: assume it's off as she hasn't confirmed

Thanks all!

I would send a message though saying that as you hadn't heard from her to confirm you assumed her plans had changed. Bit of a pain if you're stuck with the item!

I've made this mistake before. Don't go unless she confirms beforehand. Send a message saying you won't be going unless you hear from her.

thanks all. Agreed. I've messaged her to say I've not set off as i haven't heard back. if she messages saying 'I'm here!' then it wouldn't be the end of the world for her to wait 20 mins or so.

Don’t go until it’s confirmed. Make it clear if it’s not confirmed soon you won’t be going until you hear from her

So often people don’t turn up when they say they will from Facebook selling groups and Freecycle etc. I wouldn’t go unless you hear from her. In the future you need to put “No time wasters!” on your swap ad. Not sure if this definitely works but worth a try Grin

Free stuff always attracts time-wasters. It's generally better to weed them out by asking for a token amount.
