To be dreading a winter lockdown?

Stillnaturalmineralwater2020 · 13/07/2020 10:23

I feel like the prospect of a winter lockdown is just looming over me at the moment, not being able to see family, being stuck indoors/WFH in bad weather... I'm really concerned about the schools potentially closing again and the impact on work and my kids' education.

Is anyone else preoccupied by this? AIBU to be so worried?

I'm not preoccupied by this and not particularly worried. I can't see it happening tbh but even if it does...

WFH and being not having to leave the house during bad weather sounds quite appealing to me!

LaureBerthaud · 13/07/2020 10:27

I doubt very much this country can afford a second lockdown. There might be short term regional lockdowns or individual school closures but surely to god, not another one like this?

Caramel78 · 13/07/2020 10:29

I don’t think the economy would survive another lengthy lockdown. If the virus gets bad again then I think they will do short bursts of regional lockdowns and enforce everyone wearing masks everywhere other than at home.

Hingeandbracket · 13/07/2020 10:29

Is anyone else preoccupied by this? Probably, some people worry about anything and everything.
AIBU to be so worried? Up to you, I think you're being daft but plenty of people seem to enjoy being anxious about everything.

Inforthelonghaul · 13/07/2020 10:33

I’ll be wearing a mask in shops and washing my hands lots for the foreseeable but other than that can’t see what else can change. Mass lockdown can’t happen again and unless people start dying in the street I can’t see the government trying.

KeyWorker · 13/07/2020 10:34

I highly doubt there will be a second lockdown on this scale. It’s far more likely that shorter, local restrictions may happen. However, I agree that any kind of lockdown in winter will be far more difficult as it’s not as easy to use the garden or get out for a walk/run. It’s not something I’m personally worrying about at the moment but understand your concern, particularly if you live in a flat or smaller house.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 13/07/2020 10:37

I’d prefer a winter lockdown. No schlepping to the station in rain/ice. No Christmas party with work. Snuggled in at home with the decorations....

PumpkinP · 13/07/2020 10:37

I would have preferred it in winter tbh, no one wants to be forced to stay in when it’s lovely weather outside. It would have been easier for me when you don’t want to go out anyway as it’s cold wet and dark. Although I don’t see another one happening anyway.

ChasingRainbows19 · 13/07/2020 10:45

I’m dreading winter as I think we’ve not seen the worst tbh. However I doubt we will get full lockdown again more local ones. I feel people will mix more indoors all cosy which if Covid starts to spread will be tricky!

I work in the NHS and winter planning always occurs around now and I just can’t see how it’s not going to be anything other than awful. But us ward staff aren’t privy to any plans yet.

Our winters are bad as exhausting already with out hospital full to bursting with ambulance queues and no beds. Adding covid onto that is giving me anxiety already. I know it can’t be helped. NHS hospitals are not equipped for the isolation and infection control measures treatment of covid Ideally needs.

Polkadotties · 13/07/2020 10:49

I don’t think there will be another national lockdown, the country can’t afford it.
The high street is on its knees, people will be even less likely to want to shop ‘offline’ if they’ve got to queue in the freezing cold, wind and rain.

Jumblebumblemess · 13/07/2020 10:52

Lockdown in winter will be no different for us really as we don't have a garden. We will just wrap up warmer for a walk somewhere. I will hate for childcare to be locked down again as it really affected our child, but if it happens it happens. We deal with it then.

Thurmanmurman · 13/07/2020 10:53

It won't happen. Maybe in particular areas but not the whole country.

I'd love a winter lockdown, no need to walk to work in the rain.

Just so long as it's not the week before Xmas so people can get to where they need to go, who cares?

Loveinatimeofcovid · 13/07/2020 11:01

Or .... you could start prepping now:
-Loads if fairly lights
-Pre order a couple of real trees now

  • lots of lovely snuggly blankets
  • ugg boot slippers
  • merino (or evening better possum) cardigan
  • lots of red wine and those packets for mulling it
  • install a wood burner

Just think of the possibilities, this very well could be the best, snuggliest winter of you life!

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/07/2020 11:03

They can’t coerce enough people out of this one let alone start another!!!

JizzPigeon22 · 13/07/2020 11:03

Ooooh id love a winter lockdown!

GreyGardens88 · 13/07/2020 11:06

Won't happen

Timeforabiscuit · 13/07/2020 11:06

It's unlikely we'll be facing the nation wide lockdown again.

They've now had the time to set up better outbreak response, so it's more that workplaces, schools and care homes where they have several cases will be "locked down" - rather than a whole town for example.

user1493413286 · 13/07/2020 11:07

I don’t think the economy could survive another lockdown; I think there may be local ones but they won’t go on as long as this one has. There has to be a balance before we do even more harm to our children’s education/future.

Chottie · 13/07/2020 11:14

No not at all.

Atm, I'm enjoying the sunshine in August.

Should a winter lockdown happen, I will think about it then.

The old saying 'don't trouble trouble, until trouble troubles you' comes to mind.

AntiHop · 13/07/2020 11:17

I'm worried too.

weepingwillow22 · 13/07/2020 11:19

I am worried about the combination of a no deal brexit in January and and upsurge in covid in the winter. I think the potential for significant food andmedicine shortages is very high.

UsernameNotValid · 13/07/2020 11:22

Other than no school life hadn't really changed for us tbh as DH and I have both worked throughout in jobs that can't be done from home, can't see that it would change any in winter!

Shit for the kids missing school but there's not much to be done if it does happen which I doubt it will. Regional lockdowns perhaps but we've had very few cases here compared to other parts of the UK🤷

It's easy to fall into a pit of anxiety just now but try not to worry about things you can't control.

IAintentDead · 13/07/2020 11:23

Economy can't stand it.

We know better now what we are dealing with.

Local lockdowns are possible but I think they will be more localised than the Leicester one. Spikes will be identified quickly and may lead lockdowns of people working in specific places. (Such as the current one of workers on a farm that are living in dormitory type accommodation. Maybe even more specific guidance around age.

The current guidance will help reduce the spread of flu and other illnesses as well as Covid. Keeping sensible hygiene levels up and otherwise encouraging people to live again is the most appropriate way forward.

There is already going to be far more mental illnesses, poverty and suicide as a result of the first lockdown. We will not go back to that.
