Boy racer revving engine!

We live in a lovely, peaceful, quiet area. There are some garages at the end of our culdesac that are owned by people who don’t live in the street. No problem.

It’s a lovely warm day, the windows are open, and for the past 30 mins at least all I’ve been able to hear is the loud revving of a ‘boy racer’ type car. Very annoying. It was coming from one of the garages. After at least half an hour of non-stop revving, the car pulled up in front of our house, the driver got out and left the engine running. If this was a ‘normal’ car, I wouldn’t have even noticed, but this was so flipping loud the house was shaking (I exaggerate, but you get the picture!)

I went out and shouted (had to shout to be heard over the ridiculous noise of the engine) “can you turn the engine off please!” To which the owner replied he was doing nothing wrong, and was fully taxed and MOT’d and could do what he liked. I said “it’s been going on for well over half an hour now, it’s doing my head in, and now you’re right outside my living room!” Anyway, he got back in the car and drove off.

Was I being unreasonable in saying something?

Where did the driver go when he got out of the car? Sounds like he had a bit of an attitude.

Ywnbu
Most of those car types don't give a fuck about anyone else. Our neighbour has a shitty Subaru she apparently has to leave running for ridiculous lengths of time. Everyone on the street loathes her.

No,

Good on you for speaking to him.

Boy racers make me wish I was a traffic cop. My god I loathe them.

Yanbu. Can’t stand the noise of popping spluttering “souped up” cars. It’s pretty relentless here late at night (Hampshire) but at least it’s not too close. Sounds like the Monaco gp along the big roads some nights.

We have a neighbour and if he’s not letting his pals tear about in his car like we live on the Monaco circuit he’s sitting revving his engine 8 or 9 times at 11pm.

I think if he had just pulled up, it would have been a different matter (although why you’d leave an engine that loud running for a second longer than necessary, I do not know!) but it had been going on for at least 30 mins and I had had enough! Good to know I’m not alone in my hatred of such cars!
