AIBU to take the tube?

We live in the SW of England and have been invited to a rare and exciting ( SD) event in East London. It’s too far for me to comfortably drive there and back in one day. We would have to take 3 trains to get there including the tube. Pre Covid I would do this no question. DH doesn’t want me to go because of the risk of catching the virus on the tube/ train.
Is it too risky? WWYD? Thanks

If you go off peak it's really quiet at the moment. Just get a mask and sanitizer.

Which Tube line are you taking? Hammersmith and City?

milienhaus · 12/07/2020 12:53

As far as I understand it the tube is pretty empty right now so reasonably safe if you’re careful (masks compulsory of course). Just be aware some stations haven’t reopened yet due to understaffing!

Having said that, I’m not planning to take the tube any time soon and I’m not being that careful generally - I don’t think it’s very clean at the best of times.

In that situation I would take it. I’ve been on the tube outside of rush hour recently and it was very quiet and most people wore masks.

Only you can decide tho - tube is prob one of the least hygienic places and it’s a personal risk analysis IMO

Thank you ... yes a dilemma.. I’m looking at getting a driver now instead. Expensive but so is the train! Thanks again for replying.

I went on the tube last week, no issues, had plenty of space.

millymollymoomoo · 13/07/2020 11:52

I’d take the tube

Thisisworsethananticpated · 13/07/2020 11:53

Wear a mask , use hand san and avoid rush hour
Enjoy !

You could change trains to cut across London without going in - so eg from reading across to Guildford and try to hit London around Waterloo or even Victoria/thameslink to minimise tube usage

sashagabadon · 13/07/2020 11:56

the tube is super quiet - and quite lovely at the moment

wear your mask, use the hand sanitiser, sit away from others - it's fine

FizzyPink · 13/07/2020 11:58

You’ll be fine, just take a mask and don’t touch anything. Tube doors open automatically so no need to be touching the buttons anyway

I'll be taking the Hamm & City line today, as my 11mo DD has a hospital appointment in Central London. It definitely feels less risky than an Uber or Bus... I reckon it'll be much easier to social distance, as from what friends have told me the trains have been almost empty during the day.

I'm actually a wee bit excited tbh Grin As a lifelong Londoner I don't think I've ever gone this long without jumping on the tube!
