It's not hard to know what they're for. They do not need an explanation that YABU means the opposite of what your YANBU is. We are not toddlers.

I refuse to even answer the AIBU threads now if the op explains what you're voting for. I wanted to partake in the Friends one, but straight away, silly explaining what you're voting for, it's not necessary.

Perhaps if people stopped using AIBU for such inane questions like AIBU to ask you if I should eat cheese, then it wouldn't be as big of an issue.

You're ruining AIBU for me, please stop.

I didn't vote as you didn't explain it very well

Thorilicious · 11/07/2020 21:25

Don't like it, scroll past.
Sometimes the way the OP words things, it's useful to have it explained.

That's the thing, you have to open the thread and read it before you're hit with the stupid explanation

YABU for leave the bastard
YANBU for cancel the cheque

I suspect you're going to get a lot of YABU votes just because.

I voted that way btw Grin

I do agree sometimes I think it's obvious but other times, it's definitely necessary. I find it's used as a bottom line after a lot of explanations or the OP is just anticipating people asking "So what's your AIBU?"

Doesn't really bother me.

daisypond · 11/07/2020 22:05

The voting buttons are never displayed for me, so I can never vote. I don’t know why I can’t see them.

Russellbrandshair · 11/07/2020 22:06

I don’t agree. Sometimes the OP asks a question which really isn’t obvious which way you should vote.

Now maybe that’s the OPs fault for wording it awkwardly (eg with double negatives or whatever) but I can’t imagine this enraging me so much that I would like to comment but dont out of sheer irritation 🤷‍♀️

00100001 · 11/07/2020 22:13

It's because MN is in the stone age - so we have to bash it to make it do what we want, hence the weird AIBU polls

LemonLapin · 11/07/2020 22:16

I hate it too. When did it become a thing on MN and why?

AdditionalCharacter · 11/07/2020 22:18

Oh I'm well prepared for everyone to say YABU. It's not my first AIBU rodeo.

Well yes, but I'm really petty and like to stick to the rules, written or unspoken..

AIBU used to be a good topic, when it was all fields here and people weren't so woke.

Maybe people do it because some people here can be so pedantic! Like I noticed recently anyone posting about something light hearted would put in a caveat about Covid like “yes I know people are dying and this isn’t important but what about xyz”. You just know that otherwise some twat will pop up with “OMG don’t you care PEOPLE ARE DYING?” Etc

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/07/2020 22:26

Actually I think a lot of the time it's not that clear which way to vote because they don't explain clearly enough which side they are coming from.

lifestooshort123 · 11/07/2020 22:28

(I can't see the voting buttons either) Even more irritating is when the thread title looks really interesting but when you open it, bleh. Or so little info that you think it might be worth a peek - more bleh.

Are you using the app?
AranciaRosso · 11/07/2020 23:02

I hate it too OP. It’s a bloody vote not a poll. If they want a poll with several options then they should contact MNHQ and ask for a poll function. Can’t be that difficult.

daisypond · 11/07/2020 23:03

No, I am not using the app. Just the general website. No voting buttons.

TheseShoesAreMadeForRunning · 11/07/2020 23:04

I've noticed this. I use the app so don't the voting options.

The title will be something like

AIBU TO WANT CURTAINS

I can't drive and the shop is an hour bus ride away, my husband wants a drink and is refusing to take

YABU get the bus and let dh unwind with his peach schnapps

YANBU he should put you first and take you to the shops to buy the curtains.

Yes! This exactly! It's clear from the description and post, no need for the rest.

@AranciaRosso exactly, it's not a poll!
