Another thread going at the moment about which cbeebies character would make the worst partner.

Flop (from Bing) is mentioned and described variously as Bing's parent, his familiar, his vampire protector trapped in servitude...

AIBU to not know what is he? Is he Bing's dad? (Why doesn't he call him dad? Why is he half the size? Why does he have seams?) His carer? His toy? His conscience? His imaginary friend? What is he?!

Apparently in the books Bing has parents and Flop is his toy? So they kind of adapted this into the tv programme but got rid of the parents and made Flop into a carer for Bing.

OMG Daftodil. I have wanted to start my own thread about this demon for a VERY long time. THANK YOU for giving me this opportunity to rant about this little orange dweeb. I have many comments/questions.

Firstly, I absolutely hate Flop's choice of knitwear, his hat/scarf combo is horrendous. The way he says 'bye-si-bye' to his friends is lame. Why is his pro pic on his phone him in a sombrero?

In 'Bus Ride' when he starts up that goddam 'brum brum bus, bye bye house' song. WHY. And he quite often just makes noises instead of using words which is v irritating.

When he can't make a bloody coffee and keeps spilling the beans everywhere so that 'voo voo' has to come out of the cupboard because 'soggy froggy' won't cut it. Ffs Flop! And he puts that little kitchen roll mask on to root around in the hoover - pathetic mate, just jump in and get it!

And in the world of Bing, how did these massive toddler creatures get birthed? Where are their parents? Why do they have 24 hour care? Who is the house designed for? It's not Flop and it's not Bing, Flop has to get his bloody step stool out every 5 minutes to reach the counters!

Your question about him having seams has cracked me up! In summary, YANBU, Flop defies all sensible thought and brings out a side of me I am not proud of! I need to watch less Bing...

@tipsyandtim it wouldn't surprise me if Flop had got rid of the parents himself. He has the cool detached manner of a serial killer. They probably won't show that episode on the beeb though...

Have you seen the theory on Reddit that in Bing, the characters shrink and get more like a cuddly toy with age, so that Hoppity Voosh is Bing's grandfather trapped inside a cuddly body in some sort of purgatory?Terrifying and hilarious. I didn't come up with this theory, honest. Mine would be much more sinister!

I have an irrational hatred of flop. I do however love Dougie and the Squirrels

How can you say this about Flop when pathetic Padget is letting Pando get away with all sorts. The only good parent is the elephant one, Amma!

The best theory is that Flop is Thomas Cromwell in purgatory. If he ever loses his rag at Bing he has to do another thousand years.
I've yet to see anything else that fits so well.

Bing is banned in this house because it's too odd and creepy. Having said that Duggee is not banned, but why can all the squirrels (who are also animals) talk, but Duggee can only woof? Also not sure it's ok to keep hugging your adult male scout leader with no other adults present -but that line of thought is probably linked to my job

The one where bing has a cold and instead of saying bless you he says "aichi". Because all middle class English parents (as his voice actor is) say aichi. Then one of the other knitted parents turns up and says the same thing.

This is the beat thread I have seen in a long time. I have a deep seated hatred for Bing in general. I may have a tendency to utter 'f**ng Bing' whenever his moany mug pops up on my screen. I am worried my 19 month old is going to think that's the actual name of the show. I love the theories about him being a serial killer. Very accurate I believe.

Could we also take a moment to appreciate the absolute terror of the "bye bye box"?

We call it "the annoying rabbit" I did think similar to that theory in that they eventually become the soft creatures. Flop has long ears like Bing, Amma has a trunk like Sula.

But then it all falls apart because the wet blanket that is Padget doesn't have any features of Pando (who IMO is the most annoying of the bunch, that swing episode gives me the rage, as does the Bus episode, why does no one ever pull him up on his behaviour?!)

I however believe Bing bunny can go boil in a bloody stew, the whiney little cunt. Pando is a spoilt twat and his ragdoll parent is an enabler! The only one I can stand is Charlie because he can't talk!

In fairness, my children get a lot more attention than I do and I look a lot more ragged and ropey since having children too. Can I use this excuse too? "I'm just trying not to take attention off the children"

I really can't see why not! As long as you never raise your voice to them, let them kill butterflies and get away with anything they want.

This site has a few possible theories, including the one where Flop is a figment of Bing's imagination, created as a coping mechanism after all the adults died from the Virus. Perhaps a bit too near to the mark in current times...

I read somewhere from the creators it was to not exclude children in care or foster homes who do not have parents, just carers, which is why they all look so different and the other rabbit thing is always looking after Charlie alone.
Flop gives me the rage to be honest 😂 no one is that calm especially not when a child is being that naughty in public 😆😆

Bing is my ideal nanny and a much needed character for children who don't have a mum. Speaking from personal experience.
