SecretSquirreI · 10/07/2020 23:20

Have you guys seen the stuff on Twitter about Wayfair products being named after missing children (a pillow case for $10k for example) and the theory it's human trafficking?

Blowing up the internet this evening.

Seems unlikely but is very very strange none the less!!

Yes you can. The web page developer could have done it in five mins and they could have just said - we fucked the price up. Rather than saying it’s because it’s fire resistant.

No matter what they would say answer would always be gotcha.
The internet is dark and full of bored idiots

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 13:53

Just to play devil's advocate, because most people go "Oh, interwebs nutso conspiracy theory, must be rubbish" it could be a perfect cover......

But unlikely......

Fascinating to observe none the less.

Engineered in some way or a delusional accident, it may well have consequences in terms of where the internet goes next in terms of "censorship".

knittingaddict · 12/07/2020 13:59

So a Ghislain sofa (spelt differently to the well known madame and trafficker of vulnerable teenagers) not made by the Little Saint James company and not with coordinates of the island. Honestly Evelefteden, you need to get of the net.

Similar enough! Don't you understand it's all hidden but not hidden but right there but notGrin

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 14:03

The price = co-ordinates thing has come up elsewhere.

Apparently it's not an exact science...... Wink

knittingaddict · 12/07/2020 14:03

I know SchrodingersImmigrant, silly me for not believing everything I see on the internet.

knittingaddict · 12/07/2020 14:10

You're not kidding.

Price of sofa on the site - £549.99

Coordinates - 18.3003° N, 64.8256° W

Hmm.

PotholeParadise · 12/07/2020 14:12

All these theories seem to rest on the assumption that rich child abusers and the people who traffick children to serve their perverted desires don't have whatsapp, and so have to leave messages for each other in discreet places.

PotholeParadise · 12/07/2020 14:17

I can't even find a furniture manufacturer called Little St James. Anyone else?

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 14:20

Just googled whether Whatsapp can be monitored. A real mix of yeah but no but yeah including MSM articles.

Don't use it myself but I would assume that most commercial communication apps can be accessed in criminal cases some way or another.

But, my housemate has theorised it may all drive more people to the dark web - also uncharted territory for me lol - I really have no idea.......

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 14:23

www.google.com/search?q=little+st+james+furniture&rlz=1C1GGRV_enGB751GB751&sxsrf=ALeKk01Aktyxm_Cq_zd3jAhGQJiXQIwrbw:1594560070839&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi_qeGU58fqAhVxolwKHSXEDwcQ_AUoAnoECAwQBA&biw=1366&bih=657

HMMMM.......

But searching Little St James furniture comes up with no results but does bring a Wayfair ad..... SEO algorithms in random overdrive?

You might be interested in this which broke last week.

Precis:

An invite-only communications network (similar to whatsapp but for people in organised crime) was broken into by police in an international operation.

So, no, at the level of crime we're talking about, they won't be using whatsapp. But they won't be leaving notes in cyberspace for each other in the manner of a third-rate spy novel, either.

Babs709 · 12/07/2020 14:42

Fucking love a conspiracy theory even if this one does lack much interesting “evidence”.

This tickled me: Ikea have been in on this for years. Millions of men called Billy, kidnapped and sold for £20 under the guise of a flat packed book case. I’m just going to check my billy bookcase to see if there is a man hiding in it (I’ve had it for years, he may not be in a good way.)

I ordered some garden stuff from Aldi a few weeks ago and there was a toad in the box. Anyone know if Aldi are toad trafficking?

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 14:45

Fascinating links - thank you.

I also think the likeliest route for nefarious comms would be multiple disposable burner phones and low tech things.

But that's based on fictional stuff I have watched too.

I dunno. It's all quite the conundrum.

But as I'm bored I'm treating it all as a harmless diversion - watching the internet eat itself could become an Olympic sport......

Toomanyradishes · 12/07/2020 14:47

I buy storage boxes on amazon, same picture, similar prices, different names because its 3rd parties putting their namee on a generic product, its probably the same here.

Although the boxes i buy are significantly cheaper so if amazon are tracking anything its probably crickets or ants or something like that

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 14:47

Toads????? Lick it! It might be one of those hallucinogenic ones!!!! The dark underbelly of Aldi? How much was the garden stuff? We may be onto something here - LMAO Wink

I offered it to my single SIL in case she wanted to try for a prince but she declined.

It was an Aldi special buy so very good value for furniture and some wildlife.

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 14:53

Oh my - shapeshifting princes trafficked in the guise of toads - there must be a novel in here somewhere.......

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/07/2020 15:02

It would be a cool episode on Law and order SVU tho

Ooh, I hope so.

Reading through reddit and twitter, I have two main thoughts: why is it that none of these people presenting themselves as cynical, worldly and questioning are saying "money laundering"? And why are they telling each other that these girls names are 'made-up' and so it can't be a coincidence that these cabinets have these names? They're not WASP names, but there is a 30 year old actress on wikipedia called Yaritza and it's on baby name lists.

Anyway, if there is criminal activity, money laundering is far more plausible.

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 15:11

I agree.

It's not implausible that some sort of nefarious activity is going on, but the immediate leap to child trafficking I think is driven by the Epstein / Maxwell furore.

The names thing is a bit baffling I agree. Given the number of people in the world who have "unusual" names, coincidence is highly likely.

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 15:14

And if it is some sort of ploy to try and devalue or perversely raise the profile of Wayfair for whatever reason, using the names which can be linked to missing children wouldn't be hard to do if you were orchestrating a conspiracy that would dog whistle everyone to protect children - because who doesn't want to do that?
