Wayfair trending on Twitter - Sex Trafficking?!

SecretSquirreI · 10/07/2020 23:20

Have you guys seen the stuff on Twitter about Wayfair products being named after missing children (a pillow case for $10k for example) and the theory it's human trafficking?

Blowing up the internet this evening.

Seems unlikely but is very very strange none the less!!

OP posts:
BigBadVoodooHat · 11/07/2020 00:27

Probably bullshit like 90% of the internet.

“Probably” bullshit? So you think there’s even a tiny chance that it might not be bullshit?! Confused

SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/07/2020 00:35

There should be an iq test before people can go online🤦

Sparklesocks · 11/07/2020 00:40

@WinterAndRoughWeather yes! Paul is dead is my fave conspiracy theory Grin

Evelefteden · 11/07/2020 00:41

I went down the rabbit hole and typed the codes on the Yandex site. It does bring you to pictures of young girls. Most of them are, what looks like cute little girls but then you start to see a few that are suggestive and wearing inappropriate clothes. There is few of a young girl around five, full of make up and smoking. Hundreds of pictures.

Somebody is putting them there.

This world is so fucking depressing.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 11/07/2020 00:48

I feel I'm going to regret asking, but what pizza thing/conspiracy? Confused

AnneOfQueenSables · 11/07/2020 00:54

This seems on a par with the John F Kennedy Twitter conspiracies. I accidentally stumbled across that and couldn't believe how gullible people are.

On a different point, does anyone else think the quality of Snopes' research and rebuttals has deteriorated? It feels as though they rush out responses now rather than take the time to provide robust data.

Billyjoearmstrong · 11/07/2020 00:54

@thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter google pizza gate.

And Paul certainly is dead. The twat that took over is an imposter (I may have lost years to that conspiracy).

FortunesFave · 11/07/2020 00:55

Eve I would report that...what is Yandex?

Evelefteden · 11/07/2020 01:01

A search engine. I think it’s Russian. Never heard of it before I seen it on twitter before.

FortunesFave · 11/07/2020 01:02

But why did you search in that?

Plumplumbadum · 11/07/2020 01:05

The models of items on offer have the same names of girls who have recently gone missing. People need to make their own minds up, but I know what I think.

Mnhealth202020 · 11/07/2020 01:06

Ew. This whole thing is very creepy. Not that I believe in the conspiracy, but the images posted in relation to it are vile.

Yandex is basically a Russian google, just without search filters. Google will automatically remove dodgy search results whereas yandex keeps it all

Evelefteden · 11/07/2020 01:09

I followed the #wayfairtrafficing and people were talking about it.
TulipsandDa1s1es · 11/07/2020 01:09

imagine if it was true and you ordered one of these products thinking it seemed ok and a woman in a box showed up on your doorstep.

Mnhealth202020 · 11/07/2020 01:11

I don’t think the human trafficking of missing people aspect here is true. Why would they name the listing the exact name of said missing person? Seems like an easy lead for police no?

I know. I clicked on one picture and it took me to another page with the tag line of ‘budding 5th grader’ with reels of other girls 🙁

I’ve no idea. It’s really odd though as the girls are fairly recently missing. It’s a really weird coincidence that a collection of cabinets all have missing girls names, the girls names are quite unusual so it not like this is the ‘sally’ cabinet.

Twitter is breaking my brain

Vodkacranberryplease · 11/07/2020 01:23

Well no industrial grade cabinet costs that much no matter what their people say. And the names are weird.

But I can imagine they do shady stuff to stay on top of google too.

Evelefteden · 11/07/2020 01:26

It’s not just the cabinets - Twitter is literately going through wayfair with a fine tooth comb.

Alice-Mae went missing in February this year.

According to global missing kids.org 460k kids go missing a year in the US (absolutely awful). With such a large number I think it would be very easy to match up those names with kids that have been reported missing in the last few months/1 year.

Don't you think such a large number of missing kids is in its self weird?
How many are actually found?

Sparklesocks · 11/07/2020 01:38

@Plumplumbadum I don’t have those stats to hand, but my point is that with such an enormous number you could very easily cherry pick and find names to match up to fit a narrative. I absolutely believe that some of that number are human trafficked yes, but that doesn’t mean there’s any link at all with this particular theory.

Theres absolutely no evidence backing this up at all. All there is are overpriced items, names of missing kids that have been googled and a weird Russian search engine which throws up disturbing images of children when you enter random numbers into it. There is absolutely nothing concrete linking them.

And if it was real why on earth would they use real names??

Plumplumbadum · 11/07/2020 01:45

There is such a thing as hiding in plain sight.
But more importantly, this highlights the absolutely huge amount of children that are going missing in the world every day. Why isn't anyone questioning where they are disappearing to? How many of these missing children are found? What are the numbers here?
I for one am questioning a lot of things recently. And no, conspiracy or not I do not trust everything I'm fed by MSM. People do not seem to be questioning things enough these days. We should not be like sheep, accepting everything we are told and then called conspiracy theorists when we do not accept things we are told.

Imagine.

It's ridiculous.

Sparklesocks · 11/07/2020 01:52

I absolutely agree that you should take things with a pinch of salt and not believe everything you read, but that also extends to conspiracy theories on twitter and Reddit - particularly where there’s no concrete proof.

Take what the press print with a pinch of salt and understand that mainstream media outlets will have a political agenda behind their reporting, but it also doesn’t mean that every YouTuber or Redditor has unveiled the smoking gun when something like this starts to trend on social media.

The amount of missing children certainly is worrying but it’s not always a case of disappearing forever without a trace for them all, as the NCMEC explains:

‘This number represents reports of missing children. That means if a child runs away multiple times in a year, each instance would be entered into NCIC separately and counted in the yearly total. Likewise, if an entry is withdrawn and amended or updated, that would also be reflected in the total.’
