Wayfair trending on Twitter - Sex Trafficking?!

SecretSquirreI · 10/07/2020 23:20

Have you guys seen the stuff on Twitter about Wayfair products being named after missing children (a pillow case for $10k for example) and the theory it's human trafficking?

Blowing up the internet this evening.

Seems unlikely but is very very strange none the less!!

I find it hard to believe/accept that this could be true, however I never thought I’d come across a facebook page that was full of pedophiles either. I also find it hard to believe/accept that if you type in certain letters on to a search engine it take you to thousands of images of children in sexualised poses with tags of ‘budding 5th grader’ and photos of a little girl around five with a face full of make up and smoking but it’s there, I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

There are so many cases of well known pedophiles coming to light that were hiding in plain sight.

Snopes and other fact checking sites are all run by the same people. So I wouldn’t trust them either.

Evelefteden · 12/07/2020 11:52

Also if your computer was ever to be seized the fact you had even a dark web browser would add to any suspicion.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility that a site that hosts third sellers could be using the site for nefarious reasons. Amazon have already been in trouble for selling pedophile baby clothes and books.

We wouldn’t expect this stuff to go on because we are not pedophiles but pedophiles are very clever at finding ways to keep in touch with each other.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/07/2020 12:01

So... How are they trafficking kids which were found?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/07/2020 12:02

Why was mu previous post deleted😯

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 12:06

If this whole thing has been started maliciously, or due to delusional MH issues by the person who started the whole thing surely the authorities would be able to identify them and deal with them for their own good?

I'm leaning towards some sort of massive distraction event - suggestions have been made that it's a cyber attack of sorts - maybe by Russia or China - let's face it these things have been documented, and also let's not forget Cambridge Analytica.

Let's face it, anything that polarises people and takes up alot of time and energy from other valid issues and plants suspicion of - well, anyone that's not you, is a useful psychological tool.

If Wayfair finds the source and prosecutes them for malicious defamation it will be interesting - but as I said before, Wayfair is trending all over the internet and driving traffic to their sites, which will generate revenue because of advertising links etc.

So many strands to this possible web, and unlikely we'll ever hear the truth of the matter.

Misdirection to take the heat off other things going on in the world? Who knows.

Child trafficking is real and needs to be sorted out, but like others, I am 100% sceptical about it being this blatant. Money laundering might be an option but really, I think it's a bunch of stuff being knitted together into a three armed jumper.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/07/2020 12:07

It's very hard to find a source of a gossip...

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 12:08

Oh, and I believe the FBI have been inundated with calls from anxious redditors.......

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 12:09

I agree a source of gossip is hard to find, but the original redditor must be a good starting point.

lovelifehope · 12/07/2020 12:14

It’s highly unlikely the authorities would do anything if it is true. They often turn a blind eye to stuff like this. But surely talking about it and raising concerns is better than staying silent? Children living in homes or are homeless are often targets and governments don’t do enough to protect them. “Wayfair” is a questionable name perhaps, as in “waif”?

Boredbumhead · 12/07/2020 12:15

The oddest thing is that Wayfair have stood by this and said it was an industrial grade product and the price was correct, rather than saying that it had been hacked or it was a pricing mistake.

knittingaddict · 12/07/2020 12:21

I hope they are prosecuted if it's malicious and get the help they need if it's a mental health issue. These online conspiracies are stupid and harmful. If the original source of things like this would just report them to the authorities then could others could stop wasting their time on this rubbish. There's only one reason to go online rather than report it though.

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 12:22

Agree that talking about things is no bad thing - these days though, the things one talks about are ascribed a moral value, so some posters here, as is their right, feel it's ridiculous to even do so because it implies that even having the conversation shows a lack of critical thinking skills and therefore a lack of intelligence.

I'm very hardwired to see patterns and connections - however, I don't automatically believe any conclusion that might be drawn from them because I know how my brain works, so for me it's an intellectual exercise that might lead to a good B movie plot.

The difficulty comes with those who believe things unreasonably and act on it recklessly - often in what is good faith in their minds - and cause harm to innocent people.

Policing that without infringing human rights and curtailing free speech is a minefield of Orwellian scope, especially on the internet.

knittingaddict · 12/07/2020 12:23

Some posters on here have just got to be taking the piss. I really hope that's what it is.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 12/07/2020 12:23

My only thought on this is someone is using this as a way to get people to search that Russian website/ search engine. To muddy the waters on something or get people to look for paedophilic content.

I’m aware this is a conspiracy theory but it’s no more insane than wayfair people trafficking.

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 12:27

Agreed.

This whole thing may be a clusterfuck of massive proportions based in irrational thoughts, or it may have an agenda that the participants have no knowledge of.

All we can do is watch and wait - if it dies a death over the next few days in general then that will be telling. If something else of a similar dramatic nature starts trending, also interesting.

I'm just observing and theorising - it's what I do - but a theory without evidence is just a theory Wink

knittingaddict · 12/07/2020 12:30

I just can't believe that at least on person on this thread said that they had gone on a dodgy Russian site to search for these images. Have they no idea of online safety or a sense of self preservation. They went on there because Twitter told them to. What?

knittingaddict · 12/07/2020 12:31

Sorry, "one person", not "on person".

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 12:41

I know - I think this is pretty naive but as we are often encouraged to educate ourselves or check sources it's not that surprising. Also, there is a bit of a thrill in thinking one might be the hero of the hour and crack the case.

However, knowing only a little about how the internet works and stores and uses ones info, it's definitely not a route I'm going......

Evelefteden · 12/07/2020 12:56

Wayfair could have nipped this in the bud immediately and said it was an error because of you go on the actual webpage of the company that build the cabinets they are only two to three hundred quid.

It’s weird

Evelefteden · 12/07/2020 13:00

I think it’s a massive distraction for something else

SchrodingersImmigrant · 12/07/2020 13:08

You can't nip these things in a bud nowadays as easily as it used to be.

It's impossible to put up fire powered by stupidity and boredome.

OldQueen1969 · 12/07/2020 13:09

Aye.... bread and virtual circuses eh?

knittingaddict · 12/07/2020 13:16

Wayfair were probably caught on the back foot because they were vaguely intelligent people who couldn't conceive that this would be taken seriously.

Yes you can. The web page developer could have done it in five mins and they could have just said - we fucked the price up. Rather than saying it’s because it’s fire resistant.

I think this is actually some one taking the piss as one of their very expensive couches ‘Ghisllne Convertible’ is by a company called ‘Little st James’ which is the island that Epstein owns - what’s weird is that the price of the couch is the coordinates for the island 😬

Death by twitter.

Is that someone photoshopping the listing for the Ghislain sofa by Fairmont Park?
