I need some advice! Shall I leave or not re: job redundancy!

Thanks to bloody covid my dp is going to be out of a job soon. I currently work pt (nmw) so we won't have much coming in even with benefits. Dp is main earner.
The area dp works in is quite niche and the organisations he usually works for aren't recruiting right now at all. It will probably be months when a suitable vacancy pops up and obviously he might not even get the job.

At my work there's word that there will be cuts to support staff but management haven't told staff yet. But I know 100% that this is on the cards. However I don't know if I am at risk.

So my question is shall I stick it out in my current job and wait to see if I am made redundant. I might not. Im the only one doing my job.

Or

Start applying for a job right now even though I might not be made redundant anyway? There's a couple that I could apply for.

Cant hurt to apply .....

never hurts to start looking. have you been there a long time and would get a decent redundancy package? In that case I would hold off. Otherwise, there is nothing to lose esp with a NMW job. You salary cannot go down any further.

Agree. Stick in a few applications and see. As a friend of mine says, first catch your fish before you worry about to cook it. (Mind you, I think she's referring to catching a man, so take from it what you will).

Yes I would apply for the jobs, then its win win if you don't get made redundant and they offer you a new job.
Really hoping it works out for you. It's so hard right now for so many people. Fingers crossed for DH too hopefully a job will come up.

Start looking. It’s easier to get a job when you already have one. And it can never hurt to have options. Either you’ll be redundant but have a head start, or you’ll have a luxury of choosing stay in this job or go to a new one.

I forgot to mention that it's super convenient. A few minutes walk from my home so no commute. Other jobs are still local but obviously not that close!

I also hate that they're not telling us now. I think it would be around maybe in Oct but it's all guess work. We'll be going back to working on site in September. They wouldn't drag it on for ages would they before they told staff.
