Sun setting too late

AIBU? It's hard enough with lockdown and a hectic family and young kids wanting to stay up later and later, but all I want is a few hours to myself to unwind each evening.

But no - for the last few weeks the sun is been going down later and later, casting red and orange rays everywhere and generally creating a lot of subdued, warm light, until well past 10pm. Last night wasn't so bad but its Friday night soon and with a clear sky I just know it's going to kick off and get all fiery and glowy and stuff. I just want it to set early for once so I can go and sit outside with a glass of wine by 7pm and relax without getting all sun-rayed on and vanilla-skied. Anybody else feel the same? There is just too much light at the end of the tunnel.

Is that not just summer though?

Nightmanagerfan · 10/07/2020 14:10

Eh?

Summer Solstice was 21st July so it’s getting darker earlier each night now.

Get some blackout blinds!

Pelleas · 10/07/2020 14:13

I agree - we need year round GMT but we'll never get it because people have the misconception that lighter nights serve some purpose in Autumn/Spring when it's generally freezing cold.

GinDaddyRedux · 10/07/2020 14:14

Weak attempt.

Cherrysoup · 10/07/2020 14:16

Where the buggery do you live that the sun is setting that late?! Are you in the frozen north?

Ishihtzuknot · 10/07/2020 14:48

I’m with you op, I want the sun to bugger off so it’s dark enough for my solar lights to come on earlier Grin
Get some black out blinds and change the time on the clock a few hours ahead, everyone’s happy

jackdaw141 · 10/07/2020 16:16

It would not be so bad if it made up for it the other end of the day, like rising earlier, for example. I could cope with that. I just want a couple of hours at the end of the day to sit down in a bit of peace and quiet, with DSun tear-arsing around glowing and shining when all I want to do is chill.

I'm having a silly day today too with silly kids. Time for gin Gin.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/07/2020 16:45

Take a trip to Inverness. Did a trip there as a student. The sun was setting as we headed into a nightclub near midnight. And rising as we were walking home at 3am.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 10/07/2020 16:48

Well I’ve heard all the complaints now! The sun is setting too late! Hmm

Coronabegone · 10/07/2020 16:54

The days are getting shorter not longer, summer solstice was the 21st June, are you unfamiliar with summer OP?

bettsbattenburg · 10/07/2020 16:56

It's setting earlier and earlier which is totally unacceptable, I want it to be daylight until about 11pm all year round - that's a much better idea. In winter I have to drive home from work in the dark at 4pm on unlight, twisting turning lanes all alike and dodge wild deer, badgers, foxes and rabbits.

DuineArBith · 10/07/2020 17:17

Are you time travelling, @Nightmanagerfan?
HappyHammy · 10/07/2020 17:21

So the sun rises too early and sets too late. What about the midday sun. Does that annoy you too.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 10/07/2020 17:24

@Cherrysoup

In Scotland it is that late we get about 1.5 hours of proper darkness in summer

Think some people are missing the joke and haven’t read the first thread!

IwishIhadaMargarita · 10/07/2020 17:25

@HappyHammy @Allmyarseandpeggymartin
it’s a joke based on another AIBU post

midnightstar66 · 10/07/2020 17:29

Well obviously people who didn't see the other thread might miss the joke, but it could be a genuine thing for many in Scotland lol although it's already starting to get darker earlier.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 10/07/2020 19:49

Ah right, fair fucks I missed the other one Grin

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/07/2020 19:55

I want it to stay light all night, love the sunshine.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 10/07/2020 23:01

I wish we could have light nights all year round.
