Like most people I am working from home. I live in terrace housing. The kids down the round are loud at the best of times (as most kids are and that isn't my AIBU).

But now all I can hear is whistling. Nosied out the window and both children have been given whistles. It has been non-stop since half 8 and given their track record this will no doubt go on till about 11/11.30 tonight. I have my TV turned up loud and I can still hear the whistling. I want to stab my eardrums.

AIBU or would this be pissing anyone else off right now? Angry

God Shock some people with dc are just so selfish. Yanbu op

contrmary · 10/07/2020 09:18

YANBU. Ironically the parent probably gave them the whistles to "shut them up".

HansBanans · 10/07/2020 09:25

YANBU I am working from home as well and that would drive me absolutely bonkers. The usual squealing/screaming while playing is distracting enough but whistles?!?!

MondayYogurt · 10/07/2020 09:28

Whistles shouldn't be in prolonged use. It could really damage their hearing. See the link below.

Shock

I’d never give my DC a whistle. My ears hurt on your behalf!!

Notmyfirstusername · 10/07/2020 09:33

My neighbours decided to teach their 3 & 5 year olds to bike ride outside of my window starting at 7:15 this morning, which involved much crying and cheering. They live 10 houses up and our house is just off a blind corner that delivery drivers tend to take at speed. They are complaining loudly every time a car user goes past for spoiling their fun. You have my sympathy.

Midsommar · 10/07/2020 09:36

Why are there so many inconsiderate neighbours around? Drives me insane Angry

I feel your pain. It was bad enough when ds was given a whistle in a party bag... Seriously wtf was that parent thinking?! Two children with whistles would probably push me over the edge. The noise of them goes through me!

Midsommar · 10/07/2020 09:45

@Passmethechocolatecake they seem to have taken a break at the moment, they'll no doubt be out again soon! I need someone to rescue me aka knock me unconscious please

Northernsoullover · 10/07/2020 09:46

I always used to go through party bags and bin whistles. Nasty things.

Badabingbadabum · 10/07/2020 09:48

A 'friend' of mine once gave an assortment of whistles as party favours. I hate them Grin.

My dc are allowed around two short blasts on a whistle they find and then it is taken off them. Its such a horrible, shrill noise, surely your neighbours must be sick of the noise?

Shock
Royalbloo · 10/07/2020 09:50

My ex gave one to my daughter. I told her Daddy really loves whistles and she should insist he keeps it at his house - she did Smile

SerenityNowwwww · 10/07/2020 09:52

You need a vuvuzela.

Roselilly36 · 10/07/2020 09:54

So sorry OP, I had to laugh, I can just imagine it, I loved a whistle as a child.

Ozgirl75 · 10/07/2020 09:55

I stumbled across two whistles that I confiscated from a party bag about 3 years ago the other day. Straight in the bin.

UmberOmbreUma · 10/07/2020 09:58

That would give me the rage OP Angry I can't stand loud shrill noises it makes me ridiculously angry Blush

AlphaDalpha · 10/07/2020 10:01

I apologied to my neighbours during lockdown for the noise from my children and all of them said it was lovely to hear children playing and even screaming because they were safe in the knowledge theirs are adults that have left home 🤣

I'd never give them bloody whilstles though!

FelicityPike · 10/07/2020 10:05

I have a whistle my DD got with a magazine, it’s hidden at the back of my cupboard of “stuff”.
Open the front door and shout “shut the fuck up before I ram the bastarding whistles up your arses!”
Or not...your choice 😁

romeolovedjulliet · 10/07/2020 10:06

bet the parent/s are wearing ear plugs or have cranked up loud music to drown out the little cherubs. i feel your pain op and hope the novelty wears off soon or the whistles get broken.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 10/07/2020 10:07

Our neighbours children had them the other day....I was ready to commit murder!

LolaSmiles · 10/07/2020 10:09

Your neighbours are really inconsiderate.

Open the front door and shout “shut the fuck up before I ram the bastarding whistles up your arses!”
Grin

Yeah a kid from the next street appeared in my garden last Summer with a recorder. He was swiftly sent on his way. Don't care if this makes me seem nasty (had a bit of bother with him hitting and spitting on my daughter previously anyway). I wouldn't let my own children out in the garden with a recorder annoying the neighbours so I'm not going to have a random child in my garden annoying them and me.

LakieLady · 10/07/2020 10:15

I feel your pain, OP!

The woman diagonally opposite appears to be having some sort of party in the street. There are 2 men, another woman and 4 kids outside, half on her drive and half on the pavement. There's screaming, shrieking and laughing and it's been going on since just after 9am.

Why they're out in the street and not in the (gloriously sunny) back garden, I have no fucking idea. They're so loud, they might as well be in my living room.

Thank fuck I don't work on Fridays, if I was struggling to help someone complete a PIP form over the phone today, I'd be tearing my hair out. As it is, I'm on the brink of coming over all Hyacinth Bouquet, marching over there and giving her a piece of my mind.

You can even hear it in the back bedroom upstairs, where DP is delivering training via Zoom. He's had to use a headset, it's so noisy.
