Weird balls appeared from nowhere

I clean EVERY day wipe work tops down twice a day after cooking so I know my kitchen. Today while wiping down I found around 15 small grey balls behind the utensil holder. What could they be? I called my partner to get them as I was scared they were eggs lol but he said they were more like polystyrene we looked at ceiling and walls no damage. They weren’t near a window so couldn’t have blown in...there was no droppings (mice) as I was worried maybe they were carrying them off somewhere I am baffled?!

Eeeeeew Shock

jessstan2 · 10/07/2020 04:56

Alien visitors.

Dehydrated instant pets - sea monkeys asleep.

sashh · 10/07/2020 05:28

No help at all but I thought this was going to be a Woo thread.

Leflic · 10/07/2020 05:43

My sons bear ( once stuffed)leaves small plastic balls everywhere. Tiny holes in his much loved fur.

PhilCornwall1 · 10/07/2020 05:51

Sea Monkeys.

Sorry!!! I've read the Sea Monkey thread a little too much.

Bluemoooon · 10/07/2020 05:52

Are they 1mm diameter or 1 inch?

Sleepingboy · 10/07/2020 06:03

Look behind or inside your extractor fan above your hob. They come from in there. I've had the same.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/07/2020 06:29

They're almost certainly cavity wall insulation leaking out of a small gap somewhere.

Gncq · 10/07/2020 06:32

Have you tried tasting one?

FortunesFave · 10/07/2020 06:40

Picture OP?

FallingStar · 10/07/2020 06:41

I'll second that they're coming from the extractor fan, my mum had these too. Little silver balls!

PoloNeckKnickers · 10/07/2020 06:43

My MIL had these in her downstairs lavatory. Definitely insulation balls.

SnakesOrLadders · 10/07/2020 06:54

Yes insulation balls. We have the same thing in our utility 😂

Happymummy8888 · 10/07/2020 07:12

No pics sorry as he wipes them up and binned them before I even thought to take a pic. The extractor fan theory this is the kitchen layout and where the fan is and where the balls were found and they were right in the corner so I don’t know how they would have got there from the fan and not been all over the counter

This is the closest image online I can find what the balls were like

Yes, insulation balls. Our neighbours had all their insulation drilled out in a refurbishment and they get everywhere, absolutely everywhere.
They are incredibly light so any sort of air current could have moved them to the corner in your kitchen.

WonderTweek · 10/07/2020 07:17

I keep finding tiny metal balls in my son's room. They are definitely metal and I've traced them back to his dresser, and my theory is that there may be some inside the runners of the drawers, and one has broken and little balls keep falling out. Not sure if this is could be the same as yours?

How mysterious!

emmiemms · 10/07/2020 07:21

I have no idea but am very intrigued!

Baileyscheesecake · 10/07/2020 07:23

So the pic you posted is from Gardeners World. Do they say what the picture is of?

Adoptthisdogornot · 10/07/2020 07:23

No! They're woodlice! Were plagued with them, although they are very harmless. They curl up when they die, dark grey, about the size of a ball bearing? Perfect sphere.

CallmeIT · 10/07/2020 07:25

Cavity wall insulation. Mine occasionally pop out through the cooker hood!

Adoptthisdogornot · 10/07/2020 07:26

Wondertweek you're right, yours are ball bearings from the drawer runners. The mechanism will fail soon, its bloody annoying when it happens!

Happymummy8888 · 10/07/2020 07:34

The woodlice theory could be right as we get lots and lots in the kitchen

I've also had this recently. Small silver ball bearings. Found about 15 of them scattered around my hallway and found another in my utility room. I guessed they came from the hoover or something (I've no idea) occasionally find a random one pop up somewhere

Adoptthisdogornot · 10/07/2020 07:40

Happy mummy if they're all identical then wall insulation. If they vary slightly in colour and size, woodlice. I'm certain to my bones they're woodlice though.

FredaFrogspawn · 10/07/2020 07:41

We’re they solid or did they pop when pinched? You must have some idea of consistency. Did they feel like eggs or metal ball bearings, polystyrene, hard sugar or hard plastic?
