To feel disheartened about not losing weight but losing inches/sizes

I'm 8 months pp. I actually like how I look (I'm a size 8). I train five days a week and I'm conscious about how I eat. In two weeks I've lost a bit more than half a pound. (I've been consistently following my plan for 8-9 weeks now). I've lost a decent amount of inches (started as a large 10) and my waist is now around 27in. Yet I'm still classified as overweight. You can see my muscle tone and all of that and I know I'm healthy and again I think I'm more or less the size I want to be but staying overweight is starting to get to me.

😂😂😂😂

The average person produces 0.6–1.8 liters of intestinal gas each day.
There. Now we can all count😂

Fressia123 · 09/07/2020 10:31

At Gap I'm a size 4 (that's definitely vanity sizing!).

Based on the labels in my Gap clothes I think gap use American sizes.

Don't go bmi, it's inaccurate for fitter people. For someone who can't walk up stairs without getting out breath, or can't walk far at all without getting out of breath, who also has a waist measurement of more than half of their height, bmi is reasonably accurate and should be listened to.

You train a lot, are fit, your waist is smaller than half of your height, therefore you're fine. Ignore bmi.

Solomi · 09/07/2020 10:36

Gap so use american sizes so a 4 is equal to a uk 8.

However I am a size 10 and my BMI is 25, in reality i look tiny! I do work out a lot

Dont worry about BMI

Lolapusht · 09/07/2020 10:37

How tall are you? As others have said, BMI is not a good indicator of healthy weight. You’ve gone down a dress size in 8 weeks after having had a baby so that’s amazing! Your body will probably be different now you’ve had a baby, so what was “normal” pre-baby may not apply now. Rather than weighing yourself lots, try scales that tell you body fat % and only check once a week. Scales are not a good indicator of health. If you’re training 5 times a week and eating a healthy diet you are not overweight.

Howyiz · 09/07/2020 10:40

What is your weight?

Duckyneedsaclean · 09/07/2020 10:41

How accurately have you measured your height? A cm or 2 can make a fair bit of difference to bmi.

But if you are size 8 with a 27inch waist you are clearly not overweight. Bmi doesn't work for actually fit people.

SharonasCorona · 09/07/2020 10:45

Why are you avoiding mentioning your weight OP?

sugarbum · 09/07/2020 10:47

@phonelock excellent typo Grin

mellowgreenspring · 09/07/2020 10:47

But what do you want us all to say? No you're not fat?

It's a well known fact BMI doesn't work for fit or muscular types. I'm way up on the BMI scale but Im often weightlifting I'm 5,1 and 63kg and a size 8-10.

So you have a choice if you want to loose weight, stop training. You'll loose muscle mass, and the scales will be whatever you want them to be??

Otherwise apply some common sense and just get on with you life?

Fressia123 · 09/07/2020 10:51

Solomi I've already converted. I'm a size 0 (American) at Gap

@SharonasCorona

She said it on the first page, you've missed reading it. Just look at all of the ops posts and you'll see it.

Howyiz · 09/07/2020 11:00

Where exactly @KeepingPlain?

Fressia123 · 09/07/2020 11:06

Don't be stupid OP. I am sure you have more intelligence than this.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 09/07/2020 11:13

Unless you are 4ft 2 you're not overweight

Fatted · 09/07/2020 11:16

It sounds about right OP. I'm 5'1 (and a third, don't forget the third!) and I'm classed as overweight at anything over 9.5 stone. Personally I think I look OK at around 10 stone and if I trained well at that weight, I could easily get into smaller sizes.

The thing is weight and BMI on their own mean nothing. You can be a healthy weight and live off caffeine and fags whilst doing no exercise. You can be fit, active and eat well and still be overweight. As you're finding. It doesn't matter. Focus on living a healthy lifestyle.

merryhouse · 09/07/2020 11:20

Ok, this "waist half your height thing" is bollocks.

I mean, if it's more than that then obviously that's too much. But saying "it's fine, it's less than half" is ridiculous.

Most adult women are above 5ft, ie above 60 inches. A 30-inch waist is not small.

2155User · 09/07/2020 11:21

If you have even an ounce of common sense you'll know that BMI is useless.

But clearly, you don't.

PhoneLock · 09/07/2020 11:22

I'm struggling with this. For comparison, I exercise a lot (including heavy weights) and, for a woman, have a high proportion of muscle to fat. My BMI is 18.5.

OP How about posting a picture so that we can see your build.

Patsypie · 09/07/2020 11:24

Vanity sizing is hilarious. I've got size 14 skirts from years ago that would now be a 10 now. Ridiculous and women are delighted to be an 8 or 10! Well you aren't! Sizes 4 and 6 didn't even exist until recent years.

Um no it's not bollocks actually. Waist size is a good indicator of health.
