Which would be a better age for first toy kitchen?

16 months or wait until 2nd birthday?

My eldest DD became obsessed with her tea set at around 18 months.

If this is a Christmas Vs Birthday dilemma with a late summer birthday, I'd buy an outdoor toy for Christmas they can use from about March, then the kitchen for birthday for the upcoming winter months.

I don't know OP, but would the kitchen contain items small enough for your DC to put in their mouth with the potential danger of choking? If so, I would wait a while.

I'd wait till second birthday (or fix it to the wall) DS almost toppled it over himself a few times!
He still loves it at 4 though.

At our toddler group, the kitchen has always been popular from when they can stand - I think partly because they like exploiting the ability to stand.

I'd say that's just the right age, my dd had hers from Father Christmas when she was about 18 months and had enjoyed the one at her nursery before that.

We got ds a toy kitchen when he was a year and a half and he loved it, still plays with it now at nearly 4.

Not too young - dd spent ages playing with the teaset and doors

I bought my first son one for his 2nd birthday so we have always had one I need the house since my second was born, my second son has played with it since about 10 months so definitely not to early.

I bought my nephew one for his first birthday and he’s loved it!

I can recommend the Ikea toy kitchen, it’s great and you can change the height with the legs.

haveyoutriedgoogle · 09/07/2020 09:41

My boy got the ikea one for Christmas which is smack bank on 18 months for him and he loooves it!

mamaof2girls · 09/07/2020 09:56

Bought my daughter one for her first birthday and it was the first thing she went to! X

Dylaninthemovies1 · 09/07/2020 09:56

I wouldn’t say too young. DS got his for his 2nd birthday and it was fine, but 18 months should be fine too: as long as you take away anything he can shove in his mouth

Sailingblue · 09/07/2020 09:59

I’d say perfect age. My first had a little one from 1 and my 15 old loves cooking.

OhioOhioOhio · 09/07/2020 10:00

Perfect age. My neighbour had one with a microwave which was always very popular.

zingally · 09/07/2020 10:12

My two had one from about that age (I happened to see a nice one on FB marketplace, so snapped it up), but they didn't really show any interest in it until they were closer to 2.
