Blatantly posting for traffic. Sorry!

Look at this beautiful tree - I thought it was birch, but I can’t see any online with that lovely dark interior. Does anyone know? Is it an aspen?

Try the gardening section, there's some very knowledgeable people on there

Is it a silver birch? I'm trying to remember from school days 😂

cricketmum84 · 08/07/2020 22:45

I think it might be actually! Amazed I've remembered something from 20 years ago...

I thought so too cricket but it’s the dark brown bark underneath the outer white layer that’s stumped me! (Geddit?)

Birch bark peels naturally revealing the layer underneath. Same as we shed skin.

Betula utilis, aka a type of birch.

Greydrapex · 09/07/2020 02:37

Paper birch?

HelpMeTree · 09/07/2020 07:11

Mountainpika Of course Smile but still... I can’t find anything online that has that lovely contrast

It's a paper birch. It sheds the white layer gradually, the brown layer underneath turns white. It looks spectacular at dusk, like it's glowing.
