t all started on Friday, I had mild stomach ache, thought maybe it was something I ate and didn’t think nothing of it. Then Saturday full blown diarrhoea and stomach pain. The diarrhoea stopped on Monday and since the pain has gotten worse and worse, I feel like I’m in labour. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. Only thing that helps if I vomit and I feel better for 20-30 mins, then it all starts again. I haven’t eaten anything since Friday as I can’t keep anything down.

So far I’ve tried peppermint/ginger lemon tea, lots of water, gaviscon and the GP has prescribed Stemetil Prochlorperazine tablets. It takes the edge off, but nothing really helps.

Anything I could ask the GP to prescribe me? Could it be muscle spams in the stomach? I don’t have diarrhoea or anything like that, just severe stomach pain that won’t go away. It’s not dull period cramps, just awful pain

I was like this with appendicitis. Call an ambulance. I was told by the gp that it was gastroenteritis. I left mine too long and I had peritonitis.

Whatever it is though, you should not be suffering like that and need some help.

Poppys · 08/07/2020 18:58

Definitely sounds like gall stones to me. I had this before Christmas - agonising pain, sickness but no temperature. Turns out I had a gall stone stuck which caused a massive infection. They look out my gall bladder and no problems since. Get yourself to A&E or out of hours doctor and don’t be fobbed off - I was misdiagnosed with gastroenteritis for 2 days.

Where is the pain? Precisely? "Stomach pain" is meaningless. That is relevant and I assume you are being specific with doctors?

Could be bowel obstruction, appendicitis, gallstones, perforated bowel... Any number of serious and life threatening things.

You need proper medical attention.

Lucozade2020 · 08/07/2020 19:11

The pain is in the middle of my stomach, sometimes in my right side. I will call 111, or go straight to A&E, won't bother with the GP. Thank you

A and E

You need to stop faffing around with this and go to A&E now! It could be nothing but it also could be serious.

Lightsareon · 08/07/2020 19:18

Yeah I would go straight to a&e with your symptoms OP, and I'm someone who hasn't seen a GP in years and would have to feel like I was dying to go to hospital.

Mnhealth202020 · 08/07/2020 19:21

I agree with the others to call 111 but the fact you haven’t eaten since Friday is concerning too. Hunger could be amplifying the pain.

CaptainCabinets · 08/07/2020 19:26

Hello OP, emergency floor nurse here.

This is definitely something that warrants proper investigation, please go directly to your local A&E (don’t faff with 111 because they will probably send out an unnecessary ambulance) and you will be taken seriously. Abdo pain is way too vague to diagnose/treat over the internet so you need to be properly examined.

Please update us! Smile

Lucozade2020 · 08/07/2020 19:32

@CaptainCabinets will I have to wait for hours in A&E? I just don't think I could do that with the pain I'm in

OP posts:
Gohackyourself · 08/07/2020 19:35

Call 111 and they will assess- but by sound of your pain I wouldn’t be surprised if you go in ambulance

Purplewithred · 08/07/2020 19:37

You will be triaged when you get in and if deemed a concern will be seen quickly. A&Es round here are still relatively quiet. If Captain says go then go.

Oxyiz · 08/07/2020 19:39

So glad you're calling for help. This sounds like the appendicitis a friend of mine had once.

tara66 · 08/07/2020 19:40

Go to A & E - some people who answer 111 are inexperienced.

Nah A&E has been ridiculously quiet since COVID-19

Spinakker · 08/07/2020 19:42

I doubt you'll have to wait long if it's that painful you get some pain relief there. You've got to act now. Good luck.

ThelmaDinkley · 08/07/2020 19:44

I’d go straight to A&E as pain going onto right hand side is a flag for appendicitis. You should get triaged and seen to quickly. Hope you feel better soon.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 08/07/2020 19:45

Sounds like appendicitis. Go to A&E

Bagelsandbrie · 08/07/2020 19:45

Go to A and E. If you have severe stomach pain that doesn’t ease at all then that’s where you should be. Could be all kinds of things from a urine or kidney infection (even in the absence of other symptoms) to appendicitis to peritonitis etc. Hope you get seen quickly.

Emelene · 08/07/2020 19:46

Go to A and E - they will triage you and if they see you are struggling so much with pain will hopefully get you seen quickly x

edwinbear · 08/07/2020 19:54

I had similar symptoms at the end of March, mine was also appendicitis. I was seen within about 20 mins and put on IV antibiotics and painkillers whilst I waited to see the doctor, and ultimately, on call surgeon. They dealt with me very quickly.

Please do get yourself to A&E.

WanderingMilly · 08/07/2020 20:00

Another who says it could potentially be appendicitis, please call 111 or go to A&E

FeedMeSantiago · 08/07/2020 20:02

At Uni I took a friend to A&E with similar symptoms - turned out to be appendicitis. A&E departments have been quiet lately due to Covid-19 so I would just go and get seen, you probably won't have to wait long.

CaptainCabinets · 08/07/2020 20:10

@Lucozade2020 every day and every hospital is different with its wait time, sadly, but please be assured that there are separate Covid zones and designated staff for each zone so you won’t be mixed in with Covid patients.

Although a pp has said that the pain may mean you go in an ambulance, this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll automatically be seen faster as you’ll still be triaged and prioritised accordingly! If you’ve other means of getting to the hospital, please use them as being brought in by ambulance isn’t always a ‘queue jump’.

CaptainAthena · 08/07/2020 20:22

A&E! Good luck
