What's a fednett letter - context - GP surgery

GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 16:15

Ok, so while writing title and writing this, I've rung the GP.

So I got a text from GP surgery asking me to make an appointment with GP (which I've made for a phonecall tomorrow).

So then I was thinking wtf so rang back to see what appointment was about.

So, receptionist said the letter relates to abdominal cramps consultation with 111 that I had a few days ago. Stool sample sent off on Friday, receptionist confirmed results are back.

Now I'm shitting it that results are not good?

I know the advice I would give to anyone else would be to calm the fuck down and chill until appointment tomorrow, but my GP practice are never proactive about anything so I can't imagine them wanting to call me about A. a call to 111 or B. a perfectly normal stool sample!

Only thing I can be thankful is that I didn't get the text on a Friday and have to wait a whole weekend.

It'll be something but doesn't necessarily mean it's awful. I've been called in for anaemia before, no big deal. It's horrible having to wait though, I feel for you Flowers

GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 16:27

Oh well. A night of no sleep. I try to calm other fussers and worriers down on here but now I'm thinking WTF?

Another thing, you can't get an appointment with my practice unless you ring at 8am, or make an appointment way in the future (which maybe they're not doing now).

So I'm wondering how I got an appointment call tomorrow.
Maybe things have changed with the practice post lockdown. My head is melted.

Sorry I missed that it's a telephone appointment. They won't give really bad news over the phone, lockdown or not that's face to face.

omg35 · 07/07/2020 16:36

You've likely got an infection and need antibiotics. If it was something really bad they would have wanted to see you/ sent you to hospital today I would think

MsEllany · 07/07/2020 16:39

I was called up to my surgery during their lunch hour to discuss blood results for my son. I ran up there, literally sobbing all the way.

I was told his white blood cells were a little high and indicated he was getting over a virus. Nothing to worry about. Just schedule another meeting. I did ask that maybe they could be less frantic about an appointment if there was nothing concerning them, I literally thought they were going to tell me my toddler had leukaemia.

So try not to worry too much. I think they’d have had you up at the hospital if it was something critical.

GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 16:40

That's true I guess. If it was something bad they'd have called me, not texted.
But then again the GP said the stool sample tested for 2 things - anyone know what?

OP posts:
VeggieSausageRoll · 07/07/2020 16:42

It could even be something like the sample was clear and they just want to discuss whether your symptoms are continuing, worsening etc.

GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 16:43

Knowing my GP surgery they've only now received the letter from 111 telling them to send me for bowel tests/stool sample and haven't realised that I'm already on it. Bet that's it.

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 16:45

If it's any use, I still have pain......... But taking paracetamol for it and then it's manageable.
God, I fucking hate waiting. Just ring me.

OP posts:
dobbyssoc · 07/07/2020 16:50

Could you ring back and ask them to give you the results?
I've always been given results then if needed the doctor he called back to go through them and what they mean.

GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 16:51

Rang back and receptionist said 'we're not medically trained'.

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 16:54

I'd say that they've only now read the letter referring me for a stool sample and have forgotten that they've already sent it away and received the results.

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 07/07/2020 16:56

Is this not an appointment to give you results of stool sample?

BearySad · 07/07/2020 16:57

Are your results available online? I can always log in to see why they are ringing.

GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 16:59

Anyway, the receptionist said the letter was dated the 3rd which was Friday, which is when the poop sample was sent off. It was about 4 days prior to that that I was on to 111. Hmmm.

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 17:00

No - our surgery don't let you do anything online apart from book appointments or order repeat prescriptions.

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 17:02

Crunchymum - this practice don't even ring you when your blood results are abnormal, so I very much doubt it. You've to chase them up and then they'll check - Lord only knows how they deal with elderly patients, but I've had abnormal blood results (which needed to be actioned) and I never receive anything. They don't check anything. So this is a weird one.

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 17:03

Anyone know what the 2 things they check for in a poop sample?

OP posts:
Backbackandforth · 07/07/2020 17:06

It can be tested for multiple things, it depends what your symptoms are to cause the sample need.

GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 17:06

Also anyone know what a fednett letter is?

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 17:08

Backbackandforth It was bright red blood in mucus in poop, maybe 5 days prior to when I sent the stool sample.

jimmyhill · 07/07/2020 17:11

Also anyone know what a fednett letter is?

Where does the word fednett appear? Cos it's not a word and it's nowhere on Google. What is the context?

Rose789 · 07/07/2020 17:12

I had stomach pain. Sent off a stool sample. Got a phone call from my doctors asking me to go in straight away. I absolutely shit myself. Turned out I had h.pylori which is a really common infection. Got 2 different types of antibiotics which were hell and was absolutely fine.
GP’s are still a lot quieter then normal so just because they haven’t done their job diligently in the past (ie your blood test results) doesn’t mean it’s anything onerous.
Good luck let us know how you get on
