What's a fednett letter - context - GP surgery

GimmeAy · 07/07/2020 16:15

Ok, so while writing title and writing this, I've rung the GP.

So I got a text from GP surgery asking me to make an appointment with GP (which I've made for a phonecall tomorrow).

So then I was thinking wtf so rang back to see what appointment was about.

So, receptionist said the letter relates to abdominal cramps consultation with 111 that I had a few days ago. Stool sample sent off on Friday, receptionist confirmed results are back.

Now I'm shitting it that results are not good?

I know the advice I would give to anyone else would be to calm the fuck down and chill until appointment tomorrow, but my GP practice are never proactive about anything so I can't imagine them wanting to call me about A. a call to 111 or B. a perfectly normal stool sample!
@bloodywhitecat did you get any answers?
No, he's been sent back to the GP to ask why he wasn't referred under the two week wait rule. The doctor he saw last night said an ultrasound is not the right course of action and he needs a referral to gastrologist. It feels like we are trapped in a nightmare, no-one is helping and it all feels like no one would believe this shit is happening.

GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 10:08

God that's shit @bloodywhitecat Referrals to a speciality can take 6 months!

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 10:09

Did they take his bloods? Or just send him hot trotting out the door again? I'd nearly be faking pain at this stage!

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 10:11

Oh maybe the mean 2 week wait rule for the referral to the specialist? Not for the US?

OP posts:
bloodywhitecat · 08/07/2020 15:16

Finally. after me calling the surgery because they told him he'd have to wait until fucking Friday to speak to his GP we have made a small amount of progress. He now has a referral under the 2 week wait (no referral had been made for that route it turns out, just a referral for an USS) and he has an ultrasound booked for 17th (this has been brought forward so God knows when the original date was) which he has been told not to cancel unless he hears otherwise.

I have been speaking to the British Liver Trust who recommend we put in a complaint about the surgery and about his treatment at A&E last night as he has so many red flag indicators and no-one, but no-one is doing a thing about it.

Hoping you get better news at 4 @GimmeAy

Good work whitecat!

I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for GP to ring to see what the hell they want. I'm supposedly second on her list from 4pm.

GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 16:28

I tried to sleep today and I think I got about one minute. I'm driven demented wondering what it is. I've googled FIT and it's a check for blood in stool. Next step would be colonoscopy I think. Why wont she goddamned ring!!! There's no point in me ringing the surgery as she told me yesterday that all the GPs are working from home.

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 16:30

If the phone rings I'll probably die of a heartattack - so if you never hear from me again, you'll know that I died peacefully lol.

Well, on a slightly similar but not so similar matter, my consultant referred me for a US scan about 10 days ago - I got the appointment yesterday - it's for 28th September.

Apolloanddaphne · 08/07/2020 16:34

I hope the GO calls soon. There is nothing worse than waiting for ages then the minute you decide to pop to the loo the phone goes!

Apolloanddaphne · 08/07/2020 16:35

GP even!

GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 16:37

I can't have been 2nd on the list if it's now 36 minutes later. Even I couldn't take up that much time talking. Should I ring the practice? Or just keep my line open?

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 16:38

I'm taking it as a good sign that she hasn't rang yet. Maybe I'm not urgent. Lol

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 16:55

Ok, got the call.
So the blood in my stool should be up to 9.9 and it's 24.
She is referring me under the 2 week wait to a colo-rectal (sp?) surgeon.
She referred to upper and lower GI (gastrointestinal tract).
I asked her what she thought and she said that it's probably in the lower GI tract - something like a polyp. She mentioned something about cancer screening, something that this new doctor will do I suppose.
So there we have it.

OP posts:
GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 17:01

I don't know whether 24 is bad or not. I've blood results about ten times what they're supposed to be but they say 'as expected' on the results. So I don't know anymore I suppose.

What does the reference range read?

You’ll likely have a colonoscopy to check, as doctor says maybe a polyp or UC etc. Colonoscopies are fine, I’ve had a few!

GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 20:57

I don't know the range only that it should be under 10 and it's 24.

OP posts:
DanceMonkey19 · 08/07/2020 21:02

Hope you're OK. At least you'll be seen quickly. I won't tell you not to worry as it's totally natural to under the circumstances, but don't get googling and scaring yourself. Chances are it's polyps or uc as Dr said Flowers

GimmeAy · 08/07/2020 21:08

I honestly don't care.

OP posts:
Randomfires · 08/07/2020 22:26

You don’t care about what? Are you ok

GimmeAy · 09/07/2020 02:04

I'm used to shit. I don't want to end up with a colostomy bag. In that case I'd rather die. I'm supposing the worst.

Waltham Forest Federated GP Network (FedNet) was formed in July 2014, after GPs in Waltham Forest made the decision to ‘federate’ (work together more closely and share resources) so they could provide more services for local people. Although people stay registered with their own GP practice, they can access enhanced services – such as weekend and evening GP appointments, through other GP practices who are also part of FedNet.
The remit of the federation is to share responsibility for delivering high quality, patient-focussed services for the local community as an organisational entity, working together within the local health economy.
This can include developing services specifically to suit local needs and submitting bids to deliver services which are already part of primary care services, or may be delivered in the future. GP Federations improve service integration between practices and providers which improves the quality and safety of services for all our users. This model, supported in NHS England’s Five Year Forward View and the NHS Ten Year Plan, provides opportunities for practices to come together to explore new, innovative ways of delivering Primary Care at scale to the borough.
This helps to form part of the overall local NHS Strategy to attract more services into the community, to help improve care and treatments so that residents are active and healthy.

Randomfires · 09/07/2020 14:31

Why will you have a colostomy bag?

And even if you did, it’s not that bad. A good friend of mine has one and lives his life well - just got married and had a baby!

GimmeAy · 09/07/2020 22:38

Why would I have one? Bowel cancer?

Why would I not want one? Because I see no quality of life in that.

OP posts:
Randomfires · 09/07/2020 23:42

Even if you had bowel cancer a colostomy bag is not a certainty by any means.

Quality of life is not about where you poo. I’m talking as someone who suffers from an illness where I may one day need one. There’s a whole lot of joy and wonder in the world and pooing in a bag doesn’t take that away
