Ours is currently £140pm!
We are a family of 2 adults, 4 children.
3 Bed house.
Main usage would be the washing machine and Tumble dryer - They are on a min 3-4x a day each. I know this will rack up cost.

Current energy provider have said "Its high"
Then deflect by saying silly things such as "The seal on your fridge might be broken " and " You must have a hidden electric immersion in the house"...Neither statement true.
We have 1Tv in the house and whilst its on throughout the day, as well as phone chargers, everything else is turned off at the wall!

Everyone I know seems to pay so much less!!!

£95 pm gas & electric combined for a 4 bed semi. Two adults, 3 teens (two of which are only here part time).

How on earth is your washer/dryer on 3 or 4 times a day? Do you mean per week?

Parky04 · 07/07/2020 14:54

4 adults 3 bed semi £55 per month.

Sh05 · 07/07/2020 14:56

That is really high, who is your supplier?
We are paying 52£ a month and that's gas and electric together. In the winter this goes up to around 89/92. We are with Bulb at the moment.
Two adults and 5 children. No tv, laptops on nearly all day because of wfh and home schooling. The tumble dryer is on about 3 times a week for a couple of hours because of the wet weather and washing machine one cycle everyday.
I find the electric shower and tumble dryer are most expensive to run.

Asdf12345 · 07/07/2020 14:57

£45 a month, should probably be more like £55.

Two people in a detached three bed, but running three big freezers at the moment.

Sh05 · 07/07/2020 14:57

We are in a 3 bed terrace and heating only on for 15 minutes on chilly mornings

bluebells1 · 07/07/2020 14:59

65 for gas and electric. 4 bed detached and 4 adults. We’re with Bulb.

TrickyD · 07/07/2020 14:59

£202 per month here about to rise to £240.
I have explored alternative tariffs. DH needs to turn the lights off Sometimes.

bloodywhitecat · 07/07/2020 14:59

Family of four, two adults and two under one. Our electric is £70 a month, don't use the dryer too much but cooking is all electric, hot water and heating is oil-fired.

Griselda1 · 07/07/2020 15:03

My direct debit us 109pds per month and it's not quite covering it so will probably increase. I'm guessing that lockdown has increased most bills. Mine is for a 5 bedroom, 3 reception room home but it's an old cottage style home so it's not large really. Electric showers, washing machine and tumble dryer probably explains most of mine.

Carlamity · 07/07/2020 15:05

4 bed detached, 4 adults. At the moment, from our smart meter, I can see we are spending around £60 a month combined gas and electric. During the winter, this increases a lot to about £150 a month. The house seems to lose a lot of heat through the windows, but we're not in a position to do anything about that at the moment. I think the biggest electric use in our house is computers (working from home and gaming 😳).

passthemustard · 07/07/2020 15:21

This is do depressing. I got an email 10 minutes ago from my provider saying they are putting my direct debit up to £232 per month 😩😩

4 bed, 4 story house, brand new windows and doors last year and whole house rewired, new circuit board. 2 adults, 3 teenagers and a little one.

I did reduce my direct debit for three months during lockdown when I had little income but I still feel this is steep for a repayment it was £160 previously.

I've had a dehumidifier on sporadically after a leak so I think this may be the issue.

TimeWastingButFun · 07/07/2020 15:25

We're spending around £150 a month (less than we were before we got a Smart Meter). 4-bed house with separate annexe, family of 4. We use more than usual at the moment with the kids at home all the time - washing machine, oven, hot water on all the time and gaming consoles on all over the place! Plus Charge Pod for our car (we use it overnight at a cheaper rate). But we're using less oil since we swapped our oil fired Aga for an electric range, so it probably balances out.

WhatsWhat456 · 07/07/2020 15:26

Family of 5, large 3 bed room town house with dressing room £41 electricity used in June. I run an 18 place dishwasher once a day, average 2 loads of washing weekdays and 3 loads on Saturday and Sunday due to changing bed sheets. I do have a 11kg A+++ machine tho so energy efficient, tumble drier is a heat pump condensing one which is an A rating for energy.. We always seem to have a TV and Xbox on, phones and Ipads constantly being charged and both showers are electric they are used daily by the whole household. Our supplier is Eon and have smart meters installed so bills are accurate.

TimeWastingButFun · 07/07/2020 15:27

Oh, central heating is oil fired, so none of that £150 is heating, or hot water come to think of it! We usually buy a couple of tanks of oil a year at around £800 a fill.

TimeWastingButFun · 07/07/2020 15:28

What'swhat Ah yes the dishwasher. All 4 of us here all the time at the moment so it's being run 3 times a day...

dementedpixie · 07/07/2020 15:29

Depends if you are all electric or whether you have gas too. Electricity is more expensive than gas

notheragain4 · 07/07/2020 15:31

£65 pcm 2 adults 2 children including gas (and working from home!). It'll go up to £80 in winter. 3 bed semi. We changed tariffs when they went really cheap earlier this year.

HouchinBawbags · 07/07/2020 15:36

3 bed semi. Constant electric usage. 3 TVs, 3 x boxes, 1 PS, minimum 5 mobiles getting charged, 3 kidles, iPad, washer and a tumble dryer going constantly, no one can ever turn a bloody light off and even an electric shower and we're paying around £100 a month for gas and electric together total!

Sarahplane · 07/07/2020 15:44

£66 a month. 2 adults 2 kids in a 3 bed flat. We use tumble dryer a lot in winter but less in summer, also dishwasher daily and cooker is electric. working from home just now too.

KarmaKamel · 07/07/2020 15:45

£82.50 per month for BOTH elec and gas!
3 bed terrace but constant charging of devices and electrics on. Heating on a lot too.

We use these guys and they’ve been good.

squiglet111 · 07/07/2020 15:46

Our electric is £96 a month. 2 adults and 2 kids. Can I ask what energy rating everyone's tumble dryers are? I don't think mine is good. Maybe B or C. Wondering if that has an effect. We are all at home at the moment so more energy being used I guess. Also when my husband was setting himself up for working from home he decided he needed 3 computer monitors(IT guy!) 🙄 Wonder if that's costing a lot!

nancyjuice7 · 07/07/2020 15:47

45pm for gas and electric. I think the electric is about half £22.50

2 adults

nancyjuice7 · 07/07/2020 15:47

Oh and that's two bed new build semi

AftonGlen · 07/07/2020 15:49

I pay 64 a month for gas and electric, 2 bed flat, 2 adults,1 child.
I don't have a tumble drier- I have heard they use a lot of power so have never bothered getting one.

lifesalongsong · 07/07/2020 15:50

You haven't given enough information to say if your tariff or your usage or both are too high. Maybe post those so you can get more helpful comments. Are you submitting actual readings? Do you have gas as well?

It's totally meaningless to compare ££ with other people, it's like saying I spend £100 a week at the supermarket and you pay £200 - useless unless you know what each person is buying.
