Plumber call out charge

Over the weekend called a plumber recommended by a friend to fix a boiler. He came and look at the main switch, and also take out the PCB and suspect the PCB is blown. He doesn't seems to be confident in fixing it and delay the quotation to Wednesday (which he promised to give us quotation by Monday).

The cold water bath really tough for me, so I am looking to contact the boiler manufacturer directly and get a next day fix. Should I just pay a call out fee to the plumbers?

And if yes, how much is the usual plumber call out fee for Essex?

What was the fee?

MoistMolly · 07/07/2020 13:57

If he has took away the pcb, how is anyone else going to be able to diagnose the fault?

Squirrelblanket · 07/07/2020 13:57

What's your AIBU question?

laukuk · 07/07/2020 14:06

@Singlebutmarried

What was the fee?
He didn't mention any. I am just thinking to pay as he already visited at least for the initial call out check.

No he took every thing back in, and say even he don't know which part is broken......

You used his knowledge and time to correctly identify the fault, he’s taken the broken item to get the right replacement which most wouldn’t carry as van stock due to multiple manufacturers and models, but you feel you can cheaply replace the part now with this info for a fraction of the cost.? Yep you’re a CF in the making.

Sorry Laukuk. Just read your update I apologise and take back my CF reference.

I bet you can guess my husbands trade!

laukuk · 07/07/2020 14:17

Yes I didn't feel good as he didn't collect the call out charge in first visit, and he already came to did some diagnosis. So I just wanna know how's the usual call out charge would be for Essex and just pay him.
