To ask wtf happened in my machine...

I’ve had this before with other machines, but this was the worst. T-shirt went in WITH NO MARKS, comes out looking like it’s been in Jackson Pollock’s studio. Dark brown spots/splats all over it.
Can anyone tell me what’s happened to it? Nothing else affected.

Rust ?

Could be grease/oil from a machine part, or rust. Or something from a previous load.

Try cleaning the seal and filter, and running it empty with some vinegar.

I'm getting brownish grey sludge like marks on my clothes with my current washing machine. You can see the 'sludge' when you lift the rubber seals. I'm fed up cleaning it and it never gets rid of it completely. I never had this with any of my previous washing machines. I'm sure it's because the machines are all eco now and don't use as much water. I mainly use powder but I'd say it's worse when I use liquid or lots of fabric softener.
It takes 3 hours for a cotton cycle and 2 hours for synthetics so not sure how eco it really is Shock

@horsemadgal
With all the eco cycles I find that i don’t run many very hot washes - if this happens for too long the machine nags me to run a hot wash to make sure any bacteria are killed off. I usually chuck in a bottle of machine cleaner at the same time. Helps enormously.

horsemadgal · 08/07/2020 00:44

What machine cleaner do you use please receded?
I have tried the ecoegg tablets, bleach, soda crystals and vinegar, even a dishwasher tablet and none of them have got rid of it completely.
I'm not sure if it's just this machine, I've hated it since I first got it. It also leaves fluff on all the clothes. Never had that before. No blockage or anything like that. Sad

You get those sludge marks from using too much detergent.

Clean door and filter round door then use less detergent.

Check the load weight for the cycle you are using. Mine does 4 and 8 kg loads depending on the cycle. So putting 4 kg in an 8 kg cycle mean half load so use half the detergent.

I had lots of trouble with this but spoke to an expert at the washing machine suppliers and they explained that that was the issue.

It works.

Good luck.

Also clean the seals.

Ifeelfat · 08/07/2020 09:53

Ok thanks all. It’s not old or rusty and it’s 9kg capacity on hot washes nearly all the time. Could be too much detergent but amazed at how it’s only on one item (out of 9kg).
Will clean seals and see... thanks again
