To get toaster rage?

PolaDeVeboise · 07/07/2020 10:37

For our sins, we prefer a Warburtons loaf for toast, however, our toaster doesn't blardy toast it properly. Can anyone recommend one that does? (max £40).

WARBURTONS? You can't come on here eating Warburtons! This is Mumsnet. It has to be handtrodden sourdough grown from your own bodily yeasts and matured under the full moon.

PS: no idea re toaster, sorry.

EggysMom · 07/07/2020 10:43

Asda George long-slice toaster - fits Warbys beautifully. I'll try and find you some links.

Before we found this toaster, we resorted to taking a Warbys-sized piece of cardboard out with us ...

UncleShady · 07/07/2020 10:45

I have the old version of this and it works. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00X5ZN92I?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

EggysMom · 07/07/2020 10:48

I'm pretty sure we're currently using their standard 4-slice toaster (£25) as the photo looks the same, and there's no long-slice version listed on the website.

Jammyhands your reply epitomises everything I love about MN.

OP no idea about the toaster either, sorry. Maybe just use the grill?

EnterNight · 07/07/2020 11:20

OP, draw around a slice on a piece of card, head to currys and test it. Thats what I did when I bought my last toaster as I was bloody sick of having to turn bread halfway through.

YABU anyway cos Jacksons bread is where its at.

iamme21 · 07/07/2020 11:32

You need to try Roberts extra thick bread for toast!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/07/2020 11:54

We have just bought this toaster
www.argos.co.uk/product/9191350
and it's very good so far: fits bread sideways so it toasts all over, and has wide slots so you can easily toast crumpets. Also does defrosting so you can toast bread straight from the freezer if that happens to be something you want to do.

For all it is a four-slice toaster it isn't huge in its footprint, nor very tall. And it is copper-coloured, which probably won't last but at the moment it's fun.

(Yes, all right, I am in love with my new toaster. So sue me!)

PolaDeVeboise · 07/07/2020 13:17

@JammyHands I expect to be run out of town any minute.

@EnterNight - what is this 'Jacksons' you speak of, and will I be able to 'source' in Central Scotland?

Thanks for the recommendations guys, just checking them all out.

There is a Breville. toaster that is specifically designed for warburtons bread. I just bought one but haven't tried warburtons in it yet sorry.

PolaDeVeboise · 07/07/2020 14:57

I have ordered the Breville one - thanks all!

I've not had any Jacksons bread since lockdown :( our local supermarket doesn't stock it :(

Sorry OP no toaster advice.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 07/07/2020 16:50

We're all about Jacksons bread in our house! We get it from Ocado. The wholemeal is to die for and every now and then I treat us to a white loaf.

We have the Asda 4 slice toaster which fits big slices. £25 I think.

Lancrelady80 · 07/07/2020 16:53

FWIW, have found toasting Warburtons on setting 4 and then putting it on reheat seems to work

EnterNight · 07/07/2020 17:59

Discovered Jacksons last year and wouldn't buy anything else now. Fortunately I've been able to get it through lockdown.

The stuff is witchcraft though. We don't eat a huge amount of bread between DH and I and sometimes a Jacksons loaf can still be soft and edible after 5/6 days.

@PolaDeVeboise Its sold in Waitrose, though I have seen it in a few local smaller shops. There is a 'where to buy here'. Well worth a try if you can find it:

Jackson's clearly the best. In fact champion. Grin

It's in Morrisons!
