To double dose on diazepam for back pain

I'm in fucking agony. Been given 500mg naproxen, paracetemol and 2mg diazepam which is basically a gnats fart of a dose. Ive just taken last dose of three but I'm struggling. I needed gas and air to get off the floor when it happened this morning, I'm pretty sure its muscular but right now I can't even get to the toilet without help. Every movement creates a spasm.

I know that 2mg is a really low dose, would it be dangerous to double up just for tonight until i can speak to my gp tomorrow.

Any medical bods care to jump in and save me from myself? I've just taken second naproxen and paracetamol also - obviously won't double dose those.

I take 5mg twice daily for anxiety. You'll be fine at 4mg for back pain I'd think.

You poor thing, I had something very similar happen several years ago. Worse than child birth, had to be given gas and air plus a massive jab of diazepam to ease off the spasms.

I was put on 5mg diazepam plus naproxen for a couple of days. That’s not me giving you advice, I’m just saying what I was given.

It does get better I promise you. Be careful with the diazepam, stop taking it as soon as possible as it can make you feel really numb of mind and low mood. It does stop the spasms though! I hope you feel better soon.

I have done, for the same reason, muscular back pain with spasms. You have my total sympathy, it's fucking awful. The last time it happened to me the doctor also gave 2mg diazepam and it didn't help, the first time it happened the larger dose seemed to do a better job. I hope you find relief ASAP, I ended up getting a TENS which took my mind off it a bit.

You'll be fine. Get your pyjamas on and do your night time ablutions, make whatever drink you like to take up, have your diazepam then get yourself settled into bed. Hope you're feeling better soon

It’s fine. Just take it. I took 10mg in 2 hrs once. I was completely spaced out mind. What a drug that is. Go for it

Ok thanks I'm going to take a second tablet might help me sleep. It's so painful I've just been laying here sobbing. I don't really know what I'm going to do

I would double dose for my back in the past for the "bed time dose" - probably wouldn't do it during the day as it did make me kind of dozy. But only took it sporadically for my back so a 5mg does would've put me asleep during the day. Don't drive etc per the instructions.

Ended up on a&e a few years ago after a fall down the stairs. I'm almost positive they gave me 10mg dosage as it was that bad. I ended up on amitriptyline and tramadol for a while which took the edge off the slipped disc. Feel better soon.

And a glass of wine or two
Probably not a great idea but best me horizontally chilled than screaming ming the place down in a panic

Poor you! Also been there and think I was prescribed 5mgs as back spasm/injury was so bad I basically couldn't move. The Diaz combined with pain meds really helped - though I don't remember much! So don't drink/drive etc.

Pretty sure it's fine. When mine was bad they shoved me on naproxen, paracetamol, diazepam, 60mg dihydrocodiene 4 times a day and then oral morphine... not that anything worked!

please watch out for any bladder and bowel changes or numbness around that area

Been in bed all day which probably isn't helping. I've just taken 2nd tablet so hopefully it will send me to sleep and help reduce the spasm. Each visit to the toilet fills me with dread. Fml.

Max dose is 30mg per day

You'll be fine to double up, I do it myself for panic attacks but the doctor sees 2mg as the bees knees.

Are you taking Omeprazole too? If so, I've been known on occasion to take an extra dose of these and naproxen, although I definitely wouldn't do so without the omeprazole and food.

@TheoriginalLEM yeah I had cauda equina and I don't recommend it I could still walk/wee everything pretty normal. The numbness was a nice relief from the pain

You'll be fine. But be prepared to be a bit drowsy so make sure you're somewhere safe and not driving in the next 24 hours or anything

I regularly take 2x2mg for backache that leaves me immobile. I take other medications and my gp knows this which is why I am able to do it 👌 if you have the diazepam for yourself and it isn’t someone else’s you should be fine.
