I'm in my 40s with young kids. I wore makeup for the first time in months today and by the time I get to work its all disappeared. What foundation will improve my skin? Not too expensive but doesn't have to be lidl either.

Estée Lauder Doublewear is the best I’ve ever found.

I’d suggest ensuring your skincare is surged too and use a good primer to help your foundation last.

Merryoldgoat · 06/07/2020 19:34

Sorted, not surged.

You might want to try posting this in the Style and Beauty section instead; that's where the experts will be. This is AIBU.

Estée Lauder Doublewear applied with a beauty blender over a primer. Amazing!

Aurora20 · 06/07/2020 19:40

I've stuck to powder foundation due to my oily skin, having less time to get ready with young children plus can retouch at any point easily.
I use Mac Studio Fix powder x

Oh, I thought I had. Twice now I've ended up on aibu and not the thread I intended. Bugger. Sorry. Maybe it's my phone?

Vichy Dermablend. About £25 for 30 ml but you only need smaller than a 5p amount.

MaryBoBary · 06/07/2020 19:57

I'm the same and just recently started using bare minerals original foundation powder with the mineral veil powder on top. It's great, stays put and doesn't give me spots

Waveysnail · 06/07/2020 20:00

Iv found a good primer is essential for under foundation. My foundation fav Lancome ultra wear.

Peachypips78 · 06/07/2020 20:02

Double Wear. Nothing beats it.

Flymetothetoon · 06/07/2020 20:04

I have very oily skin and open pores on nose and am older than you. ELDW is ok up to a point but after a couple of hours my pores are very noticeable.
Mineral powder over a good primer I have found is the way forward for my ridiculous oily skin.
My fave is Benefit Porefessional primer and Lily Lolo mineral foundation.

LakieLady · 06/07/2020 20:18

@Flymetothetoon I used to use Porefessional primer. Then I ran out, couldn't be arsed to go to the hellish city that is the nearest place I can buy Benefit and, by chance, spotted Revolution Pro pore minimising primer in Superdrug. I swear it's a total dupe - same colour, same consistency, feels exactly the same and performs just as well, but is half or even a third of the price of the Benefit.

bestbrowsintown · 06/07/2020 20:20

Did you use a primer then set it with a powder afterwards?

Herecomethehotstepper · 06/07/2020 20:22

Estee Lauder Double wear for me too. Lasted through 8 hour shifts doing the fries in McDonald's Grin

Immigrantsong · 06/07/2020 20:23

OP I can only use powder foundation.
Here are my favourites:
Bare minerals (original or Matte version)
Shiseido in blue compact- best by far but pricey
La Roche Posey Toleriane Mineral Foundation compact
Max Factor compact- cheapest

Flymetothetoon · 06/07/2020 20:38

LakieLady thank you for the tip , just open a new tube of benefit that will last ages but will deffo try the Superdrug primer 👍

OhioOhioOhio · 06/07/2020 20:44

Thank you.

Doublewear stays on but it's high coverage - I find it too heavy for day to day.

Some lighter options:

  • Bobbi brown skin liquid powder foundation
  • Chanel ultra Le teint velvet
  • Armani Maestro
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills luminous foundation
Mixingitall · 06/07/2020 20:50

Hello Flawless by Benefit, cream and powder.

Spanglybangles · 06/07/2020 20:51

Another vote for Bare Minerals powder foundation here.

tealandteal · 06/07/2020 20:53

I usually use bareminerals and it holds up very well but just got some samples of all earth mineral foundation which is plastic free and that also seemed very good for oily skin.
