To have bought myself some blokes trousers?

I wanted some baggy comfortable shishe for in the house/late night dog walks. I ordered some from Next that specifically called themselves “ loose” and “relaxed fit”. They arrived and were so thin that they were almost see through. They were skinny fit from the knee down and arse clingers so I sent them back and ordered some different ones. Again, Described as loose fit joggers. I ordered a size bigger to ensure they were baggy. Well they arrived and were about as “loose” as a pair of cycling shorts. Slim fitting, clung to all my bulges, shite thin material ...

So I got pissed off and ordered some men’s basic joggers. They have arrived and they are perfect! Lovely material, nice and baggy, completely practical .... love them.

But why should you have to order blokes stuff to actually find something practical and decent?? Why is all women’s clothes designed to show off as much of the body as possible?! I was reading the reviews of these blokes trousers and found one from a woman who said they were bought for herself as she was fed up of impractical women’s joggers!

YANBU.

The nineties were much better in that way.

Happynow001 · 06/07/2020 16:29

Yep I have the same problem. I ended buying leisurewear in the men's department in Matalan or M&S because they were better made, cheaper and long enough in the leg for me.

Michaelbaubles · 06/07/2020 16:32

I specifically wanted some loose fit chinos, looked carefully around, ordered a size up - they’re still stretchy and skin right round the bum and thighs. I’m sick of the sausage skin leg look in trousers, but everything’s cut like that even when it says boyfriend cut/relaxed etc. I do have a very baggy pair of “mom” jeans in non-stretchy denim that fit the bill but that’s it.

draughtycatflap · 06/07/2020 16:33

You’re gonna need some balled up socks to go with them. 😬

Lsquiggles · 06/07/2020 16:34

My favourite pair of comfy shorts were in the mens section, apparently as women we don't have a need for functional pockets or clothes that aren't skin tight Hmm

Bananabixfloof · 06/07/2020 16:36

Same, I buy mens shorts and trousers because looser fit, better made and POCKETS. Also not usually that expensive. But mostly because pockets.

Yes! Deep side pockets and also the little zipped back pockets to hold, eg, your locker key in the gym - or whatever.

I completely agree and it is the same with hoodies; struggled to find a comfortable baggy one so wear dh's! Womens clothes are all so uncomfortable and clingy and sometimes I just have a day where I want to wear baggy slouchy clothes!

00100001 · 06/07/2020 16:43

Plyy to pockets, and proper ones at that.

Proper waistbands normally too.

Yesterdayforgotten · 06/07/2020 16:44

I know and pockets, mens clothes rarely have any and this gives me the rage!

Yesterdayforgotten · 06/07/2020 16:45

womens*

blondehalo · 06/07/2020 16:46

I bought a Nike Jumper from the men's section. Exactly the same design & colour as the women's just longer and £5 cheaper!!!

zingally · 06/07/2020 16:51

I buy mens shorts for that reason!

Maybe it's just my body, but all womens shorts are either barely long enough to cover my arse, or clingy in all the wrong places.

I find that the mens fit better, look smarter/more modest, are sturdier AND have decent pockets.

I also buy the odd mens t-shirt. I get fed of womens ones that barely sit at my waist (I'm long-bodied), or are digging in my armpit. The mens come longer in the body, and have a "proper" sleeve.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 06/07/2020 16:55

I find when I wear men's trousers there's a space where their genitals would go that looks weird and daft on me.

I have a men's raincoat, though. I went to Sainsbury's in need of one in a semi emergency- the women's ones were showerproof not waterproof and all had something annoying and embellished. In the men's section there was plain, lightweight, waterproof jackets for £2 less so it was a no brainer.

SquishyBones · 06/07/2020 16:58

Yes! This was another thing! I wanted a hoody so looked through the women’s section and they were all slim fitting, short or had stupid slogans on the front such as “relax” or “california” etc !!! Absolute shite. I’ll be getting my hoody from the blokes collection too

90% of my wardrobe is from the men's department, if not more. I prefer the fit, comfort, practicality of men's wear.

Shuckle · 06/07/2020 17:08

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and am sat here both a mens t shirt and men's shorts - I was gobsmacked by the prices of maternity clothing and the few maternity tops I have are all too short now my bump is humungous, yet I am comfy as anything in my cheap, size large mens t shirts. Same with the shorts, needed some for the warmer weather and everything in the women's sections seemed to be cut diagonally to show half your arse cheeks. £6 pair of men's black shorts, lovely solid but not too thick material, decent pockets, and a respectable mid-thigh length. Sit great under the bump. Not sure I'll ever go back to women's clothes, they're all either see through or bums/boobs are falling out of them Grin

SociallyDistantPenguin · 06/07/2020 17:12

I buy mens t-shirts, shorts and hoodies... some of my jeans need replacing soon and I'm probably going to try the mens section for those too!
A little alteration to the hem of anything too long and they all look just fine.
I find the mens slim-fit tshirts are more flattering than womens tshirts... the slightly longer sleeves make me look less like a sausage and they look fitted, but not 'clinging to every lumpy bit OMG LOOK AT MY STOMACH' the way womens do. I found this out when I went looking for 100% cotton tshirts and could only find them in the mens department.

My 'nice' clothes for going out or when I need to look smart at work are womens, but I pretty much live in men clothes.

Mens pjyama trousers too btw, so comfy and warm, and long enough to keep my feet warm when curled up on the sofa!

CatBatCat · 06/07/2020 17:39

Crew neck jumpers, sweatshirts, shorts, hoodies, joggers and oversized tshirts in my wardrobe are from the men's section. Better quality, natural materials and cheaper.

Rainandclouds · 06/07/2020 17:44

I am sitting here in men’s shorts. Nice length and pockets I can fit most of my house in

recklessruby · 06/07/2020 17:57

My summer pyjamas are mens as i wanted the shorts ones which are almost indecent and probably uncomfortable in the women's section.
I love comfy mens clothes (ds has some lovely hoodiesSmile)

RusholmeRuffian · 06/07/2020 17:58

I wear men's jeans, much better quality denim, not that thin shite.

FlamingoAndJohn · 06/07/2020 18:00

Because the patriarchy.
If women’s clothes had pockets we’d fill them full of leaflets about feminism.

Yes mens pockets made of the same sturdy material the item is made of, womens inside pockets made of some thin cotton shite that tears when I put my keys in. Mens waistband has a bit of elastic in it, womens just has no give. Like women never bend over or run or carry heavy items.
And of course the coverage of ones arse cheeks.

I wear men's joggers and Dd15 wears boys
