To have bought myself some blokes trousers?

I wanted some baggy comfortable shishe for in the house/late night dog walks. I ordered some from Next that specifically called themselves “ loose” and “relaxed fit”. They arrived and were so thin that they were almost see through. They were skinny fit from the knee down and arse clingers so I sent them back and ordered some different ones. Again, Described as loose fit joggers. I ordered a size bigger to ensure they were baggy. Well they arrived and were about as “loose” as a pair of cycling shorts. Slim fitting, clung to all my bulges, shite thin material ...

So I got pissed off and ordered some men’s basic joggers. They have arrived and they are perfect! Lovely material, nice and baggy, completely practical .... love them.

But why should you have to order blokes stuff to actually find something practical and decent?? Why is all women’s clothes designed to show off as much of the body as possible?! I was reading the reviews of these blokes trousers and found one from a woman who said they were bought for herself as she was fed up of impractical women’s joggers!

I'm only 5'2 so sadly I don't think even small men's stuff will fit me Sad

Agree that women's clothing is generally too tight, too thin, too tiny pockets etc

Drives me mad.

Girls clothes as well why so skimpy, so often. Boys shorts v girls shorts is the most obvious to see this.

megletthesecond · 06/07/2020 18:12

I have men's skinny jeans from Primark because they have huge pockets. My phone slides in.

Their small men's heavy jersey tracksuit bottoms are good too. Their women's ones are almost hipsters, not comfy for sobbing on the sofa.

Primark is pretty good in the mens section. I know they do joggers in various colours and sizes and I'm sure leg length too. If they aren't short enough just wash em too hot and put in the dryer. Everytime I put mine in the dryer they shrink.

100% agree. God knows who designs women’s clothes but it sure as hell ain’t anyone that knows a damn thing about women!

Scotsmaw · 06/07/2020 18:16

I always buy men’s hoodies but for some reason it has never occurred to me to do the same with joggers!!! Thanks for the tip.

ShinyFootball · 06/07/2020 18:19

Thanks for the tip, banana!

Rach000 · 06/07/2020 19:25

I have ordered a basic t shirts recently while shops have been closed. Wanted some easy to wear loose t shirts but nearly all aren't great. One was just about ok buy after 1 wash is really short and after another a small hole. Others are just too tight even though I got a bigger size.
The 'full cup' bra I ordered from m and s isn't full cup and my boobs hang out of it even though it is my size. Just a stupid shape that doesn't cover enough. So annoying! Just wanted a decent bra and some baggy t shirts!

Fallsballs · 06/07/2020 19:42

I buy men’s raincoats (pull over head style) because they have more room and seem more robust - also not fitted and too short.

YANBU! This really grinds my gears!

Shopping for real wool knitwear a while ago, I could not believe the price of the womenswear knits! £65 for crappy acrylic, £££ for wool, £££££££ for cashmere, in some shops and none of them with a nice, normal neckline. Ended up picking up a massive mens, v neck, merino wool jumper in M&S for about a tenner in the sale. And it used to be at M&S online, you could only search by fabric in menswear, but not in womenswear Angry. They've changed it now I think.

BikeRunSki · 06/07/2020 20:01

YANBU! I wish I wasn’t so “hippy” (as in womanly shaped around the hips) and souls wear men’s chinos. Chinos are my workwear “go to” and it took years to find some grey ones.

I am also long bodied and good never reach far enough. I am far too old and flabby to display my midriff! I like men’s jumpers and T shirts for being longer and generally better made.

mencken · 06/07/2020 20:05

I'm always in bloke stuff from the spectacles down, with a couple of obvious exceptions. And NEVER women's spectacles, yuk.

better made, cheaper, more practical and no horrible pink or glitter.

if it is made for or aimed at women, it will be shit. Vote with your money.

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 06/07/2020 20:10

@Bananabixfloof

Same, I buy mens shorts and trousers because looser fit, better made and POCKETS. Also not usually that expensive. But mostly because pockets.
This x 100
Tigersneeze · 06/07/2020 20:13

Started buying menswear ages ago:

  1. usually better quality
  2. cheaper!!!
  3. much better, muted colours
  4. POCKETS!
  5. t-shirt arms are covering my arms properly
SummerHouse · 06/07/2020 20:14

Revelation thread of comfort and POCKETS!

I am often seen in August in my coat because it's basically my handbag with my cards, phone and money in it. Colleague actually bought me a handbag in pity (hate handbags) which was kind but turns out I just need men's clothing. Fantastic!

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 06/07/2020 20:34

Not sure about men's trousers but I love men's hoodies. Womens hoodies are never loose, who wants a fitted hoodie? Not me. My boobs are quite big and mens ones just fit nicer.

FlamingoAndJohn · 06/07/2020 20:56

The problem with men’s clothes for me is that I have big thighs and a fat arse. The trousers don’t fit me.

CatBatCat · 06/07/2020 21:03

Mens toiletries are cheaper too. Deodorant, razors etc.

Fucking pink tax.

Auridon4life · 06/07/2020 21:13

I got a dressing gown from Primark was in a rush and just grabbed whatever and it's got slits on both sides all the way up completely useless!

Try WoolOvers. I usually bought only when there was a promotion or I can find a voucher online or they email me a voucher code. Prices are reasonable anyway. Amazon do some but are more expensive often. They used to do wrap cardigans (like ballet wraps) and you could get a range of other items in the same colour so long sleeve jumper, short sleeve jumper etc in different fabrics. So a mix of fine merino wool with I think 30% cashmere and similar styles for summer in cotton/silk or cotton/cashmere. Nice unfussy classic styles. I also bought some heavy duty Aran-type lambswool knitted A-line cardigan jackets and blanket wraps from them years ago. I've banned myself from looking at their website and taken myself off the catalogue distribution as it's too easy to go mad and spend too much even in their sales as I stocked up whilst I was still working full time. I don't get commission for mentioning them BTW..
LadyPrigsbottom · 06/07/2020 23:07

Thanks @Happynow001! I will have a look next time I'm shopping for knitwear.

Charleyhorses · 07/07/2020 05:43

I always buy mens socks. They last about 3 times as long.

BlusteryLake · 07/07/2020 06:00

Anyone can buy any garment they like. Personally I find any men's clothes that I have worn to be ill-fitting and unflattering on me. I also like prints and patterns. I am wondering where you are all looking for women's clothes as I have no problem finding good quality, well fitting women's clothes with pockets!

CloudsCoveredTheSky · 07/07/2020 06:03

I wore a pair of my husband's trousers to walk the dog a few months ago and have now switched to just buying men's trousers.

I am the "correct" shape (as deemed by fashion companies) for women's trousers (skinny but with an arse and thighs) but they just look shit and don't have pockets. I don't need everything to hug my arse, if I want tight clothes, I'll buy tight clothes, not joggers.

Share the knowledge, where are you getting all these clothes with decent sized pockets?

Certain of my mens trousers are very unflattering, I happen to not care because pockets. I've never worn a print or pattern in my life, not about to start. And if you know the holy grail of womens clothes that fit, have better waistbands and pockets then please do share.
