To have bought myself some blokes trousers?

I wanted some baggy comfortable shishe for in the house/late night dog walks. I ordered some from Next that specifically called themselves “ loose” and “relaxed fit”. They arrived and were so thin that they were almost see through. They were skinny fit from the knee down and arse clingers so I sent them back and ordered some different ones. Again, Described as loose fit joggers. I ordered a size bigger to ensure they were baggy. Well they arrived and were about as “loose” as a pair of cycling shorts. Slim fitting, clung to all my bulges, shite thin material ...

So I got pissed off and ordered some men’s basic joggers. They have arrived and they are perfect! Lovely material, nice and baggy, completely practical .... love them.

But why should you have to order blokes stuff to actually find something practical and decent?? Why is all women’s clothes designed to show off as much of the body as possible?! I was reading the reviews of these blokes trousers and found one from a woman who said they were bought for herself as she was fed up of impractical women’s joggers!

This thread has inspired me Smile

I struggle to find women’s wear in natural fabrics - will look at menswear next time! Only prob is I’m short - might need to look at clothes for short men?

Almahart · 07/07/2020 08:15

I have been looking for shorts but can't find anything that is substantial enough - I never thought to look at men's. Brilliant idea

dudsville · 07/07/2020 08:31

I buy men's jumpers and tee shirts for the quality and fit and lounge pants for the relaxed shape, but learned i can't wear their shoes!

BrightYellowDaffodil · 07/07/2020 08:46

Totally agree on comments up thread about colours - I wanted a woolly hat a few years ago, but in a muted colour so it would go with everything. Could I find a woman’s hat in grey or black? Could I fuck.

No, if it’s a woman’s hat it must be pink or purple.with embellishments, bobbles and pretty designs. Presumably such fripperies need to be there to distract us.

So I bought a men’s hat.

I've always found mens jeans/trousers a better fit as I have no hips and no waist.

I've got a belly and a bum and hips, so some mens stuff looks silly on me. I still dont care. I'm not in a fashion parade. Also if one wears a long enough t shirt from the mens section, it hides the worst bits.
Wotsitsarecheesy · 07/07/2020 09:05

Blimey. I've struggled to buy shorts I like for years. Such that I still wear a pair I bought over 15 years ago. Just looked at Sainsbury's TU clothing online and whereas there are no women's shorts I would buy, there are LOADS of mens that I really like the look of. But what size men's do I try? I'll try DH's shorts on now, but he is tall and slim whereas I am.... not. If I get something that's big enough to go over my bum and hips, won't the waist be really baggy? But this thread has really inspired me. I've whinged to DH about pockets for years.

I’m petite and curvy and men’s stuff just doesn’t fit - it’s annoying. Uniqlo is the nearest I’ve found, their women’s clothes have decent quality fabric, generally have pockets and mostly non-skimpy stuff.

LaGoulueRevenue · 07/07/2020 09:14

My favourite jeans are from the men's section in H&M.

JeSuisPoulet · 07/07/2020 09:18

I love men's trousers - the pockets! You can actually put a phone in them and have room for other things! The lengths are also better for me as I hit 33inches and women's 32's don't seem to be quite as long as men's (who ever thought they'd add an extra inch, huh? Wink)

JeSuisPoulet · 07/07/2020 09:20

FWIW I also get men's jumpers (I have monkey arms and tall sections always have pink/fluffy/sequinned monstrosities rather than plain warm jumpers). They have far more "classic" selections.

Redcrayons · 07/07/2020 09:29

I’ve got loads of hoodies inherited from my teens which are great. Longer sleeves and longer in body which I need as I’m tall.
Never thought about men’s trousers though. I definitely need more work from home comfort clothes.

Same!

I think petite and curvy people will probably struggle to find men’s clothes that fit. Will check out Uniqlo, thanks!

This thread is a revelation for me! I'm autistic and not particularly thin so struggle as women's clothes are all fitted and cling in the wrong places! I buy men's jumpers already as I'm only 5'4 but feel like I'm constantly pulling down women's jumpers, I've also started wearing men's T-shirt's.

I've never been fashionable anyway, jeans T-shirts and nice jumpers, occasionally wear leggings and a long top but even they are hard to come by!

I will try men's shorts and jogging bottoms, I love POCKETS!

Not only are they better made, better fabric but also cheaper. The last couple of shorts I bought were from M&S menswear department a couple of years ago - but I think these are standard items. I like the length (like City shorts) good deep inset side pockets and a small button down back pocket. Some (slightly more expensive but not by much) had adjustable tabs on the waist for a better fit. When I get back there I'll invest in a couple more. I liked the navy ones.

They usually size by waist, so measure your waist and then look for some. Also very usefully (aside from the massive and plentiful pockets) they almost all have elasticated sides or back or fully elasticated waistband. So you can move and sit without cutting yourself in half. They are also longer than womens shorts. Womens come in showing off your arse cheeks or shorter. It may take some looking around, but when you find a pair that fits and suits buy several. It'll be donkeys years before you need to find more. Some of my primark shorts are 5 years old now and still going. Cos they're made better with better sturdier material.
Mumoblue · 07/07/2020 16:18

I remember once I needed a plain white button up shirt and I spent the whole day looking for one that wasn't see through and didn't have some kind of design, lace or sequin on it. It was ridiculous! I kept finding ones that looked good but as soon as I put my hand under the collar you could see right through them!

Also I ended up buying a men's messenger bag when I was at college because it was the only thing that could fit my massive folders in it.

BeanbagMcTavish · 07/07/2020 16:21

What a brilliant idea - can't believe I've never thought of this. They should fit my flat-arsed, skinny-legged apple shape perfectly as well.

What I have thought of before, though, and now wish to share with this thread, is . (DRUM ROLL.....)

MEN'S SHOES, BOOTS AND TRAINERS

Ideal for wide feet, good quality, practical, and the smaller sizes (which most women will be after) are often in the sales very cheap.

Particularly good for performance footwear like hiking boots and running shoes.

Men’s slim fit shirts fit better than women’s despite the obvious lack of boobage that blokes have. It’s crazy that a slim fit shirt meant for a flat chested bloke fits me better than a shirt made for women.

Men’s jeans were a revelation! POCKETS!!!

Beebeet · 07/07/2020 16:39

YANBU. When I was a student I used to buy quite a bit from the mens section at Primark as it was cheaper and better quality.

MEN'S SHOES, BOOTS AND TRAINERS

In desperation years ago with no money, I bought some mens trainers from Asda, never again. Probably because they cost a fiver, but they were terrible and hard and flat. I've not tried since but when shops open so that I can try on, then I will give it a go.

I work in the emergency services, we all order men’s trousers rather than women’s. We all know that fit sooo much better, including tops as well.
It’s just one of the those things!

See it’s not just one of those things. It’s everyday sexism. Do them men’s clothes fit the men? Yes. So the women’s clothes should fit the women. Once again women are a last minute thought.
FlamingoAndJohn · 07/07/2020 19:05

That wasn’t a go at you @itisntfriday1223555, it was a general moan.
