To ask where all the baby clothes have gone!

DS is in desperate need of some baby grows/pjs and some general tops and trousers. He is now in 9-12 months. Well I've looked all over online and apart from a couple of ridiculously priced ones I can't find anything!
All I want is something plain and functional but it seems that the whole population has thought the same and nothing is in stock.
My usual go to is asda but there is literally nothing in stock for sleepsuits or pj's unless we go for pink which I'm seriously considering!
Matalan has absolutely nothing every single sodding thing is out of stock!
Sainsburys are asking £9.50 for a single pair of pj's which he will grow out of by the time they turn up!
I haven't left the house to go to any shops since lockdown and I feel like I'm going to have to go just to find something!
AIBU to ask if you've had any more success than me!

Haven’t looked recently but how about H&M? Next? Marks and Spencer? The latter seems to update stock regularly and certainly had plenty in when I bought socks for mine in 6-12 months the other day.

ScrapThatThen · 06/07/2020 12:57

Weird. Would you consider a bundle from ebay secondhand?

20viona · 06/07/2020 12:59

Primark has tons as does Sainsbury's where we live.

dobbyssoc · 06/07/2020 13:00

@TwoKidsStillStanding m&s has a couple but it's £19 for 2 sleep suits which seems a lot of money maybe I'm being too frugal!

Next and M and S haven’t had anything in stock in ages and what they do have has been on their websites since January. I think lots of shops are trying to offload whatever current stock they have before bringing in the new stuff. Which is annoying because I’m struggling to find baby clothes same as you OP

dobbyssoc · 06/07/2020 13:01

@20viona I think I'm going to have to brave going out into the world and visit primark!

Have you tried

katmarie · 06/07/2020 13:01

If you can live with second hand, ebay or Facebook marketplace. If you definitely want new, try matalan or boots.

katmarie · 06/07/2020 13:02

Sorry you said you'd tried matalan. Ignore me!

PapercraftNinja · 06/07/2020 13:02

I found some nice bits on George but having the same problem as you, my DD is still in 12-18m even though she’s older.

irisnotadaff · 06/07/2020 13:02

I have hundreds I keep meaning to eBay! Try there.

Sexnotgender · 06/07/2020 13:03

It’s really difficult right now. DS is 17 months and needed some shorts and a hat. What a bugger I had finding something!

Not great colour choice but cotton and reasonably priced

ShebaShimmyShake · 06/07/2020 13:05

Check out your local Freecycle, or if you have a local Covid support group on WhatsApp or Facebook. There's usually someone with baby stuff to spare.

TwoKidsStillStanding · 06/07/2020 13:05

@dobbyssoc, that’s fair enough - I’d be expecting to pay max £15 for 3 in Marks!

I have had problems finding stuff for our older DC so am starting to think there is some level of supply issues across the board!

Smithtylater · 06/07/2020 13:07

I had exactly the same problem....only small baby sizes available online and in the supermarkets. I braved primark the other day (went around 10.30 on Thursday- it was dead) and got everything i needed...well stocked and good prices. They have some lovely baby boy bits in at the moment...

dobbyssoc · 06/07/2020 13:07

Thank you all. By off chance I looked at Morrison's and they had a couple in stock!
I do feel at some point I will have to brave going out into the world or DS will have to wear 'mummy's princess' tops!

I went to Primark at the weekend and they had lots of kids clothes in all sizes. There was a Next store nearby and they had a sale so there were some lovely items cheaper than the usual price as well as the full price stuff. Hope you manage to find something.

GreenTulips · 06/07/2020 13:17

This is the start of things to come
Factories shut
Workers unable to or furloughed
Supplies drying up - cotton, materials etc

Prices will rise considerably

Sailingblue · 06/07/2020 13:22

Not the same age but I’ve found stock for school uniform has been quite ropey. I’ve needed to get things from 3 different shops.

Keiki · 06/07/2020 13:47

I had the same problem recently and to my surprise found Next had a better and cheaper selection than any of the supermarkets!

Piglet89 · 06/07/2020 14:07

@dobbyssoc are you against eBay bundles? I got practically all my 10 month old’s clothes (apart from a couple of gifted items) from eBay.

Piglet89 · 06/07/2020 14:11

@Keiki Next stuff is lovely!

islandislandisland · 06/07/2020 14:16

I'm not due til October but have been getting some things in newborn to 6 months where I can, next were best for available sleepsuits and vests, think I paid max £15 for 3 sleepsuits and around a tenner for 5 vests. Also managed to get some bits from Tu at Sainsbury's

Mamamamycorona · 06/07/2020 15:04

I got a basic lot of next size for mine, before lockdown and have got a couple of fb bundles (social distanced and paid by paypal) to keep us going. They've both gone up shoe and clothing sizes typically!
