The PR and bookings they will get, especially from certain nations that hugely value the metal as a signifier of status, means they in theory will pay back any seeminly "wasteful" investment.
They are outliers in having this USP, so they should get a flood of bookings from the curious and the ostentatious. Think of the Instagram posts alone - there will be people aching to book this.
So in a way it's not "wasteful" to me - someone made a theoretically sound business decision and chose to create something unique.
Is it outrageous? Tasteless? Sure. But if I was a hotelier waking up and reading this I'd be thinking "damn, I wish I tried this".
