If THIS starts spreading, can we all agree to shut all the flights down in/out of China?

The Black Death...

I’m not usually one for tinhat theories but it is starting to feel like 2020 is a B-list budget horror film.

If the Bubonic Plague gets up and running again the economy will be the least of our worries.

Coronavirus will seem like a dream in comparison.

OP posts:
Baaaahhhhh · 06/07/2020 10:43

Bubonic plague never died out. It is still in circulation around the world in various rodent species. The good news is you treat it with antibiotics. Job done.

TW2013 · 06/07/2020 10:44

Bubonic plague can be treated by antibiotics.

Baaaahhhhh · 06/07/2020 10:44

Oh - and back to your title - no, because it is worldwide, and has been for years.

Billyjoearmstrong · 06/07/2020 10:45

@TW2013

Bubonic plague can be treated by antibiotics.
Yes - thank God for anti biotics.
Megatron · 06/07/2020 10:45

It can be treated OP, it was never fully eradicated in the first place.

MarcelineMissouri · 06/07/2020 10:50

www.cdc.gov/plague/faq/index.html#cases

“Worldwide, between 1000-2000 cases of plague are reported every year”

SimonJT · 06/07/2020 10:51

You do realise it has always been in the UK right?

recklessruby · 06/07/2020 10:52

Well it's always been around but I wouldn't fancy a new epidemic especially when doctors keep saying antibiotics dont always work and new mutations happen.
If 2020 was a horror film then bubonic plague would mutate with corona(or ebola how horrific) and people would die on the streets as hospitals would be overwhelmed.
Can you tell I read a lot of post apocalyptic fiction?

Loveinatimeofcovid · 06/07/2020 10:53

Um, where do I start? Bubonic plague is easy to treat. It has a fairly short incubation period and a kills quickly if untreated so you haven’t got proper walking around without fof ages. It’s easy to control with basic hygiene and isolation. Mongolia is not in China.

Billyjoearmstrong · 06/07/2020 10:58

It would mutate with corona and Ebola - then the dead would immediately reanimate and become coughing, pooing, puss filled zombies. It would be quite the apocalypse.
Hargao · 06/07/2020 11:00

Inner Mongolia is China. Otherwise agree with everyone.

ArriettyJones · 06/07/2020 11:01

I’d rather quarantine the frothers TBH.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 06/07/2020 11:04

Bubonic plague is easily treated nowadays.

recklessruby · 06/07/2020 11:09

@Billyjoearmstrong fancy cowriting it? Lead character is a very earnest good looking doctor who falls in love with a reanimated zombie (before all the blood and poo obvs. She s looking ok at first, if a little pale).

ChickenDrumstick · 06/07/2020 11:09

Bubonic plague is still rife in many countries.

BUT the new swine flu is concerning. The WHO need to actually do something for once and sort this situation out. It’s ridiculous.

NameyNameyNames · 06/07/2020 11:23

Bubonic plague is treatable, and there are actually outbreaks every year around the world.
I'm more concerned with the next novel illness that's going to come along.

CrunchyCarrot · 06/07/2020 11:23

It is easily controlled via antibiotics, but best of all, it's spread by rodents, we are a nation of cat lovers, get your moggies on the case!

Billyjoearmstrong · 06/07/2020 11:24

@recklessruby in my head, he’s Brad Pitt in world war z

HesterShaw1 · 06/07/2020 11:28

Bubonic plague is endemic in several parts of the world including the USA.

Always has been.

andyoldlabour · 06/07/2020 11:29

I would rather worry about the fact that there have been around 40K daily Covid-19 cases in the US for the past couple of weeks, and we are letting planeloads of people into the UK from the US without checking or quarantining them.

HesterShaw1 · 06/07/2020 11:29

However you sounds quite excited by the prospect, OP?

Juststopswimming · 06/07/2020 11:31

I wondered how long it'd be before the dementors started rubbing their hands with glee at this story.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 06/07/2020 11:34

Well it's bacterial and treated with antibiotics. Also we have good hygiene and proper waste disposal so it's not going to spread like it did in the past.
By the way, the film The Black Death is brilliant and has Sean Bean's best death scene. Not for the faint of heart though.

SoulofanAggron · 06/07/2020 11:35

YABU in that we can treat Bubonic Plague with antibiotics, so it's not as lethal as it was.

HesterShaw1 · 06/07/2020 11:36

Let's face it, he's done a few.
