If THIS starts spreading, can we all agree to shut all the flights down in/out of China?

The Black Death...

I’m not usually one for tinhat theories but it is starting to feel like 2020 is a B-list budget horror film.

If the Bubonic Plague gets up and running again the economy will be the least of our worries.

Coronavirus will seem like a dream in comparison.

I’d rather quarantine the frothers TBH.

This made me chuckle.... there are lots of frothers around... who knew it was due to the Bubonic plague!

You're not much of a one for basic research either, are you? Though you are partial to a bit of baseless scaremongering, I see Grin

disgruntled515 · 06/07/2020 11:45

It's never gone away. If you go to national parks in the USA, in the Western states, there are signs telling you not to feed/pet the squirrels as they can carry it. People do still end up picking it up but it can be treated easily now

ICouldBeTheOne · 06/07/2020 11:45

Oh FFS.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/07/2020 11:48

Didn't realise you had control of the airlines OP but, if you do, could you do something about the banana skins that I keep finding in the slot where the magazine is please. Ta ever so.

awesomeaircraft · 06/07/2020 11:49

OP, we have antibiotics for the Black Death, but what about that one to keep you awake?

BBC link Flu virus with 'pandemic potential' found in China

Littlemeadow123 · 06/07/2020 11:51

Bubonic plague is treatable now and easier to contain than covid.

caringcarer · 06/07/2020 11:58

Plague treatment is anti biotics. China do seem to have a lot of virus startups though. They have a swine virus too ATM. They should clean up their act and shit down disgusting wet markets selling wild animals.

countrygirl99 · 06/07/2020 11:58

OP best not go to Colorado

Zilla1 · 06/07/2020 11:59

The last time I looked, it wasn't certain that the Black Death was caused by that bug either.

awesomeaircraft · 06/07/2020 12:00

@caringcarer Love the typo. Grin

CluelessBaker · 06/07/2020 12:00

If you’re aiming for a nice bit of dog-whistle racism OP, maybe consider a tiny amount of research first so your attempts to stir up some good, frothy xenophobia aren’t derailed by boring things like facts and science.

Pocketfull86 · 06/07/2020 12:03

I have to apologise for this thread.

Honestly, I didn’t even read the article properly.

It’s no excuse but I’ve been under a lot of stress lately (close young family member in hospital) and haven’t slept in a few nights. I just read the title and it was more of a ‘ffs what else can 2020 throw at us!’ knee jerk thread.

I didn’t know the plague was still around! But very relieved to hear it can be treated with antibiotics.

And no, I’m not a racist or a ‘dementor’ (is that a Harry Potter reference?)

I didn't know those things either OP. Be kind to yourself.

PrivateD00r · 06/07/2020 12:22

I didn't know either op. I would have felt the same as you.

Justaboy · 06/07/2020 12:23

Well it's always been around but I wouldn't fancy a new epidemic especially when doctors keep saying antibiotics dont always work and new mutations happen

Who said that?, medical source or some gutter press hack?..

Jaxhog · 06/07/2020 12:23

And people call me paranoid about Covid!

FortunesFave · 06/07/2020 12:26

"we" can't shut down flights in or out of ANYWHERE OP. Doesn't matter what you think,.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 06/07/2020 12:29

I was surprised when in India to read of an outbreak

If only we could turn back time to six months ago and do things differently but we can’t

Hobnobswantshernameback · 06/07/2020 12:33

Sadly you can't quarantine stupid

NothingIsWrong · 06/07/2020 12:37

My colleagues nephew had bubonic plague in the UK a couple of years ago. One of 3 cases in the UK that year. Survived with antibiotics.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 06/07/2020 12:41

The US has a problem with this too. Shut down all flights in/out of the US? And Madagascar.

Porcupineinwaiting · 06/07/2020 12:58

There are bubonic plague outbreaks in Mongolia every year. Comes from eating marmite.

Porcupineinwaiting · 06/07/2020 12:59

Marmots

What an auto correct!. Now my phone is offering Mormons. Grin
