Ebay seller refusing to send item

VelveteenBunni · 05/07/2020 18:02

Because ebay is holding the funds till 25th July.

Aibu to think that is not my problem?

I've replied to her message stating she needs to send me what I've paid for or cancel the sale.

I'm baffled.

This is the message I got.

eBay/PayPal does this occasionally. If she sends it to you, you can mark it as received and the money will be released sooner than the 25th. If she refuses to send, open a dispute case ASAP.

styleseeker72 · 05/07/2020 18:05

Or it could be that she has put the wrong email address in for her PayPal account. Double check what her PayPal email address is.

VelveteenBunni · 05/07/2020 18:06

This is what I've basically said. That sometimes ebay does this and its happened to me very recently, I still sent the items and yes indeed the money was released sooner due to receiving positive feedback

Ebay holds the money until the item is sent. Have they not sold before?

rottiemum88 · 05/07/2020 18:07

Ebay do this sometimes, it's annoying. DH had it happen on a couple of things he sold. He still sent the items as it would have been completely unreasonable not to - the buyer had still paid! I think you'd be well within your rights to ask for a refund/cancel the sale.

blindmansbluff · 05/07/2020 18:08

Can't see on the picture, has it gone through as an echeque? Sometimes it does if your card is expired. If that's the case then she is correct to wait till it clears. If it's the 21 day hold that PayPal sometimes put on for new sellers then she should post it. Positive feedback also releases the hold much quicker so in her best interests to send it out sooner.

VelveteenBunni · 05/07/2020 18:10

Even if her PayPal address is wrong, that's still not my problem as I paid through the normal method in good faith.

OP posts:
VelveteenBunni · 05/07/2020 18:12

Nope. My card is indeed valid and it was not sent as an echeque.

I've had the same message on some of my sale items and I've still sent them as I'm supposed to.

As others said they'll be holding the money until it's sent so he/she is only making it worse for themselves really. This happened to me on a £165 item which I really couldn't afford to send until the money cleared (through courier with insurance of course for that price) but ebay said tough shit basically so I had to lend the money to post it out. I'd contact ebay or cancel.

LadyofTheManners · 05/07/2020 18:15

Ring eBay, they will intervene and put a strike on her seller rating
I had a seller recently who cancelled the sale as she wasn't happy with how much her item went for.
I reported her to eBay, she now cannot sell as she sent me a right arsey email
Tough

Soubriquet · 05/07/2020 18:16

We’ve had this happen to us before

We still sent the item and contacted ebay instead hoping they would release the funds earlier which they did

StrikeItLuckyShuffle · 05/07/2020 18:17

This is because the seller is new or has not sold over a certain amount of items .
They put a hold on PayPal funds until after 21 days clears or if the buyer leaves positive feedback . ( too prevent fraudulent new sellers) This has been a rule on eBay now for about a year

Either way the seller still has to post your item ASAP as you have paid for it .
Some sellers feel that because they can’t use or access the money that you paid that they dont want to post . Unfortunately they will have to use their own money to post and then once you receive it and leave feedback the money will be in there PayPal account .

interest12 · 05/07/2020 18:18

I wouldn’t post an item until I had received the funds. She’s being reasonable. Have some patience

HotChoc10 · 05/07/2020 18:20

As a seller I really hate this system though you're right that they should send the item. I think paypal should at least release the postage cost to the seller when an item is bought.

tenlittlecygnets · 05/07/2020 18:21

I hadn't heard of this rule, but if it's a rule for new sellers, looks like she needs to send your item. Can you point her to guidance on eBay's help pages where it mentions this?

rottiemum88 · 05/07/2020 18:22

Except this isn't true and it's against the eBay rules Hmm

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 05/07/2020 18:29

Then you'll get a bad strike from eBay as a seller! they do this for new sellers to protect the buyer and they can hold the money up to 21 days. If you refuse to send the item for that long then you'll have lied on your estimated delivery to the buyer and the buyer will be refunded the money. YOU are the one who needs to be patient here, not the buyer.

sorryiasked · 05/07/2020 18:40

Send her this link and ask her to post now.

BoobsOnTheMoon · 05/07/2020 18:41

What a numpty she is. They're holding the money until 25th July but will release it sooner if you give feedback or confirm you've received the item...

EndoplasmicReticulum · 05/07/2020 18:43

She needs to send as she is a new seller, then Ebay will refund.

I have a similar problem - bought from a new seller who doesn't understand how Paypal works - she sent item but my payment is still "unclaimed" nearly a month later - probably as she has put her email address in wrong to Paypal. I have pointed this out several times but am now filing it under "not my problem" as I have the item and tried my hardest to pay. What happens next I'm not sure.

Pangur2 · 05/07/2020 18:48

I had this the other day. The eBay seller’s PayPal had used the wrong email address somehow. She was only able to fix it by logging onto the desktop version of eBay and PayPal, not the apps.
If the seller isn’t a shop and is just someone selling stuff they don’t need, I can see why they haven’t sent the stuff yet. But if the issue is anything like mine, they are the ones who have to sort it out. It won’t be fixed automatically.

Walkingtohealth · 05/07/2020 18:53

She needs to send it, she won't e able to access the money until PayPal can see you've received the item.

She just has to provide a tracking number and the money will be released once PayPal can see the item has been received.

GinDrinker00 · 05/07/2020 18:54

Tell her to post it and then they’ll release it.

KittyHawke80 · 05/07/2020 19:09

It's happened to me. It's essentially a form of escrow - she can't get the money until you've confirmed receipt but you can't (theoretically) claim not to have received the item, recall the money, and enjoy your windfall. In practice, eBay side with the buyer nine times out of ten which isn't always fair but there you have it. You're in the stronger position. Tell her she must send it or you'll open a dispute and will almost certainly prevail.
