It's too early for decking isn't it?

My one lie in a week and next door start doing their decking at 7:30am on a Sunday. They've been using power tools etc. I'm now sulking in the bath with a brew!
AIBU or is 7:30 on a Sunday too early to be using power tools in the garden 😭

Yanbu! Especially on a Sunday!

TimeWastingButFun · 05/07/2020 09:10

Way too early. We cut our hedges the other day but waited until 9.00, it would have been later on a Sunday!

AnotherEmma · 05/07/2020 09:11

YANBU, it's way too early.
I would ask them politely to wait until 9am on a Sunday before doing noisy DIY.
On other days I think 8am is reasonable but not before.

Zeusthemoose · 05/07/2020 09:11

Yep too early. Very selfish of them!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 05/07/2020 09:12

8am weekdays, 9 on Saturday, 10 on Sunday

YouDirtyMare · 05/07/2020 09:12

That's really rude of them

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/07/2020 09:13

Our next door neighbour does noisy DIY every single Sunday. I can’t believe how much stuff they must have to fix! They’ve lived there two years and still going....

Etinox · 05/07/2020 09:13

Too early. Hope you get a nap later OPBrewFlowers

mommybear1 · 05/07/2020 09:13

@TheTurnOfTheScrew Grin agreed

Greggers2017 · 05/07/2020 09:15

I know their kids get up early but it doesn't mean we all should! I've woken with a headache too so I'm extra grumpy.

I could have typed this exact OP. Neighbour has been hammering, drilling since 7 am - he even had a (noisy!) delivery of more fucking wood at 7:30 - which companies are delivering wood at sodding 7am?!

I've been sitting here imaging my neighbour having all sorts of diy injuries.

Sorry I'm not the only one with selfish arsehole neighbours Flowers

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 05/07/2020 09:21

Hell is other people

billy1966 · 05/07/2020 09:29

Bloody rude OP on a sunday.

My husband won't even cut the grass on a Sunday.

tanstaafl · 05/07/2020 09:32

Too early.

The only excuse can be they have one day to get it done before they’re back to work tomorrow for the week.

Greggers2017 · 05/07/2020 09:33

I always keep my kids in until 9 at least on a Sunday.
Even the dogs are walked so they don't have to go out.
It won't be just me they've woken as we're on a new housing estate so all houses are close together.

Bloody hell, I'd have been round there screaming like a banshee! And I'm one of life's larks, I'm always awake by that time but I like the peace and quiet first thing.

I'd have to go round and say something, and ask if they could put off starting till 8 in the week and 9 at weekends, maybe even 10 on a Sunday.

A while ago I asked if 8 am was too early to use my (quiet) mower to cut my (small) lawn on a weekday and was told in no uncertain terms that it was!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 05/07/2020 09:40

It won't be just me they've woken as we're on a new housing estate so all houses are close together.

I suggest a joint neighbourhood team building venture.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 05/07/2020 09:40

*Obviously built after 10am

foxyknoxy30 · 05/07/2020 09:41

I feel you pain we have our bins emptied every Sunday at 7-30 in the morning torture 😕

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/07/2020 09:43

Very rude. DH is desperate to get on with laying the floor in our dining room but is waiting until 10am as will live in a semi and it’s not fair on our neighbours to be hearing all that banging and drilling early on a Sunday.

Jessbow · 05/07/2020 10:11

It depends if its a one off or a regular occurance. One off wouldnt bother me.
One day to perhaps get the decking down AND a shed erected on it or something. Or they want to get it down AND treated today.

TheTeenageYears · 05/07/2020 10:11

It's way too early. Even though it's too late for today you should probably say something to them so they don't take you not saying anything as an invitation to do it again.

In Germany you can get into trouble if your kids are too noisy on a Sunday- it's a day of rest and grass cutting, DIY, car cleaning and even washing clothes all against the rules Smile

mencken · 05/07/2020 10:25

be reassured that they will have a rat invasion and also be forever slipping on the decking. It is a stupid thing to have in the UK climate.

karma will come for them.

It's true, we have decking (put in by previous owners) and I hate it! It's slippery when wet, a death trap in winter when icy, and we currently have mice in the house...
