We are supposed to fly to Spain the week after next. Slight problem.....kids passports aren't back. Applied in May. They cant be fast tracked or anything despite us going to visit family. So we have an apartment booked and have paid a deposit. Then it's cash in euros to the owner on arrival. Were stayed there before. I'm very conscious time is running out. I don't know whether to let the owner know now we might not be coming or leave it? I'm stuck over what to do for the best. If I tell her now she could advertise and possibly fill our place but what if I do and the passports arrive the day before we would have gone then we cant go. If I say nothing I feel bad for her expecting more money and finding out the day before we aren't going. Help!

If you are visiting Catalonia, I believe it has today reinstated some lockdown measures so you may not be permitted to visit anyway.

Go without the kids? 😉

The week after next I'd sit tight I think. Can you at least track the passports?

Livingmybestliferight · 04/07/2020 17:16

Tracking just shows processing!! Have been like that since 12th June. They are at Durham together at the last stage apparently.
My dd would love us to leave her here to have wild parties but that's not going to happen!! Going to Costa del Sol so fine to travel.

Wait! They are lilkely to come any day

Livingmybestliferight · 04/07/2020 20:31

I hope so. It's absolutely heartbreaking to think the family holiday we booked 15 months ago won't happen 😪

Is there DEFINITELY nothing they can do?

I was once in a similar situation (I didn’t have anything booked but desperately needed to go overseas for a family reason and my passport was being renewed) and after many phone calls and emails and much begging on my part they let me go and collect the new passport from where it was being processed (Peterborough which is a very long drive from be but I grabbed the chance!)

MollieMaeve · 04/07/2020 20:41

Should say I was told there was absolutely nothing they could do several times before they agreed to let me collect it.

Livingmybestliferight · 05/07/2020 08:48

The offices are closed so no collection or fast track available unfortunately. If i could prove that a family member was vulnerable or ill by way of a hospital/doctor's letter they could issue an emergency travel document. But I can't get hold of anything as it's not really the case.

My passport renewal was processed and new passport received in under two weeks (this has all been done in the past fortnight). I'd wàit.

I would let the owners know and explain that, as long as the passports arrive you will be coming but that it is beyond your control. Give her the opportunity to decide what she wants to do.

It isn't her fault your children's passports aren't back. If you don't go , don't you have to pay the full costs as it is so near the departure date?

Livingmybestliferight · 05/07/2020 10:51

I don't know. There is no terms and conditions I'm aware of but it doesn't seem fair to the owner or me. A real shite situation!!
