When you have chips, if you have ketchup or mayo with them, do you, like myself pour the amount of condiment you need on the side?
When my DH has chips, he smothers ketchup all over the chips.. I mean COVERS them and it just seems like a lot goes to waste.

What are your chip eating habits?

Typing this as my chips are currently cooking in the oven

Obviously on the side, so you can pick up the chips and dip them in the ketchup without getting ketchup-y fingers

InDreamland · 04/07/2020 16:42

Mayo on the side and dip the chips in. Yum yum! Enjoy your chips!

Baileyscheesecake · 04/07/2020 16:46

Smother with ketchup. On the side is prissy and boring!

mynameiscalypso · 04/07/2020 16:48

Dip on the side. My DH is a smotherer and it drives me mad, especially when he doesn't eat everything that he's smothered but it's difficult to save it because of said smothering.

SerenDippitty · 04/07/2020 16:50

I'm a heretic. I have nothing on my chips except salt and vinegar.

doyounothavegoogle · 04/07/2020 17:08

If they are in the oven then they aren't proper chips anyway Grin

OlaEliza · 04/07/2020 17:26

I do both. Depends what type of chips they are.

If chippy chips, put it on the side after smothering then in salt and vinegar.

If oven chips, on the side.

If cafe chips with cheapy vinegary ketchup, smother them.

If kebab shop chips, put them in the kebab or dip in burger sauce.

iklboo · 04/07/2020 17:29

Side pour & dip usually but I sometimes like a good smother. Our local burger place does fries with cheese, caramelised onions, ketchup and burger sauce smothered over them. Heaven.

MiddlesexGirl · 04/07/2020 17:31

Definitely on the side so the amount can be controlled.

@doyounothavegoogle You're behind the times. Use Google to look up some good recipes.

RiverCrossing · 04/07/2020 17:40

Ketchup AND mayo on the side, bottles nearby to replenish when I’ve used it all!

Soubriquet · 04/07/2020 17:42

On the side!

If I can’t do it on the side, then I will drizzle it over the chips so they all have some on but they aren’t smothered

Kaxiyor · 04/07/2020 17:43

All over the top! I go for daddies mixed with vinegar for home chip sauce and I just cover the whole stack in it.

labyrinthloafer · 04/07/2020 17:45

Can't even sit near someone who puts mayo all over their chips Shock

labyrinthloafer · 04/07/2020 17:45

The chips make the mayo go warm bleurgh

Zisforstripyoss · 04/07/2020 17:48

I only have sauce on chip shop chips - I pour the curry sauce over them and drown them!

Oven chips only need salt & vinegar.

yeOldeTrout · 04/07/2020 17:53

Small amounts of condiment is best. Directly applied.

Montsti · 04/07/2020 17:55

Ketchup on the side to dip into. I don’t like mayonnaise..

I do, however smother fish & chip shop chips in vinegar!

gotothecooler · 04/07/2020 17:56

When my DH has chips, he smothers ketchup all over the chips.. I mean COVERS them and it just seems like a lot goes to waste.

He pours ketchup on his chips then doesn't eat them? Or he likes a lot of ketchup and it's not actually wasted but eaten?

coffeewithmilk · 04/07/2020 17:57

@gotothecooler he pours SO much ketchup all over them that he has to eat them with a fork, and then there is a huge amount of waste of ketchup on the plate afterwards and congeals when I rinse to put in the dishwasher.. I do love ketchup but not that much

OP posts:
gotothecooler · 04/07/2020 17:59

Oh yeah, that's wasteful. I actually do either or but I use all the sauce I pour!

LEELULUMPKIN · 04/07/2020 18:04

I put mine in those little paper pots that Mc Donald's have for such a purpose. Don't touch their food but DH often goes for a coffee and grabs me some solely for my use when having chips.

I can't bear to let the sauce contaminate my plate! in a pot it's safe! :)

mommybear1 · 04/07/2020 18:05

ALWAYS on the side - that's the sauce law Wink

BlusteryLake · 04/07/2020 18:07

I have a special little pot for my ketchup 😀. I can't remember where it came from but it's a little white one, perfect size for ketchup on the side!

zukiecat · 04/07/2020 18:09

No ketchup, mayo or brown sauce.

I like my chips drowned in vinegar, and I mean really drowned. No salt.

LittlemissAWOL · 04/07/2020 20:51

On the side.
