How was your return to work after furlough

Hows this gone for everyone? In our offices we have all agreed it's been very odd after all these weeks in the unusual circumstances of lockdown.... we have all struggled to settle back in and back into the routine. Hows it been for everyone?

not back yet wont be for another 2 months at least but will be very strange when it happens have worked for 11 years since i was 16 and 6 months out has completly thrown me out of whack

GinDaddyRedux · 04/07/2020 07:53

It's only odd if you make it so.

Glitterb · 04/07/2020 07:57

It was absolutely fine for me. I only had 3.5 weeks off on furlough mainly due to a family bereavement. Office have bad to implement social distances, new cleaning regs etc so I guess that is weird but we work in a big office anyway so loads of room. I do miss the coffee rounds though!

I went back on Monday after 3 months off, I'm only doing 5 hours per day instead of my normal 8 and I was so knackered yesterday I fell asleep in the sofa as soon as I got home at 3pm, slept for 4 hours 😁

It felt normal to be back, I've just forgotten some of my passwords though 🤦‍♀️

That's very insightful! Hmm

I went back on Monday after almost 4 months on furlough, after half an hour or so it was like I’d never been away - done a half a shift of 4 1/2 hours but was absolutely knackered afterwords & as PP fell asleep when I came home! I am however 34 weeks pregnant so using that as my excuse to make myself feel better Shock

potter5 · 04/07/2020 08:36

Back to work on Monday. Only working 2 days until end October. Looking forward to it!😀

SierraHotel · 04/07/2020 08:39

I went back on Wednesday this week, I work in childcare. It was fine, getting back into the normal morning routine was hard though! Work was great, nowhere near as many children as there should be coming in so it's an opportunity to spend lots of time with those that are.

LegitSnack · 04/07/2020 08:43

I started working again on Monday, albeit from home still.

It was bloody weird! Having to get up early was difficult. I'd only been doing the job two weeks prior to lockdown so it was hard to pick everything back up again. I really struggled with no longer being able to do what I want when I want, you know what I mean?

And, it was bloody busy! I only finished on time yesterday.

LeJollieJauneOiseau · 04/07/2020 08:46

First day felt odd but nearly everyone settled the following day. It is really tiring though for everyone, so expect a lot of early nights because you'll be exhausted.

healththrowawayx · 04/07/2020 08:51

We’ve been in lockdown for ~100 days so it’s understandable that you need time to adjust back to normal

kojolo · 04/07/2020 08:56

It's been fine. The only part that has been a bit hard to swallow is that my colleagues regard me as having been on holiday. I was furloughed under the care obligations category to cover shifts on a complex care package that had dropped two staff. I worked 7 days a week the entire time I was on furlough. I'm actually working less now I'm back at my usual job.

My two colleagues who were not furloughed have just been given a paid week off. I'm happy they have this because basically I'm always glad when people get good stuff! It takes nothing from me for them to get it so I am all for it!

But it's hard to smile and agree that I've had mine, that's all - the framing of it really fucking angers me! I don't see how it's got anything to do with me. I was not on holiday. Obviously I've not said any of this and won't do.

It's work so, you know, I smile and agree. It's a job.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/07/2020 08:57

I'm finally going back next month so I'll let you know! I will have been off for 19 weeks.

userxx · 04/07/2020 09:00

@potter5 Will you then be going back to your usual working hours?

Pinkkgaga · 04/07/2020 09:23

Don’t know still on furlough don’t a whole lot of nothing Grin

ShutUpaYourFace · 04/07/2020 10:01

I was off work for the first 5 weeks of lockdown because my small son had a cough (he missed the last week of school) once he'd nearly recovered my eldest got it then my partner. I was awful at the time as I was the only person well but had to isolate. The worry we all had coronavirus was awful. My employer was great and I was fully paid. It meant however returning to work at the height of the pandemic around Easter. We were split into 2 teams so we worked one day had the next off. My partner was furloughed and he works in London so I was happy it was me working not him. This part time working on full pay again was great and we knew it wouldn't last. From Monday we are all back together 5 days a week. I'm dreading it. It's not so much the work but the time. 5 days then 2 off is just so shit.
My reception child is already suffering from 5 days of school on the trot. Why do we do it?
4 on 3 off would be so nice for everyone's mental health. And as The studies say just as productive.
