To report someone for lying?

Someone I know runs a business of sorts. I say of sorts because nobody appears to use her services but she makes a big show on fb of being her own boss and how hard she's working etc.

Anyway last week she announced that the business had been awarded "outstanding in all areas" by this regulatory committee without even being inspected. Due to the fact she's always making stuff up (regularly gets called out on fb for it) I decided to check online. Turns out her business isn't even registered with this regulatory body, let alone won any awards.

Should I just mind my own business? People could be tempted to use her services based on this award and it just doesn't sit right with me. I'm debating reporting her to this regulatory body but I accept that I might be poking my nose in!

I would check with the cqc, but if you run a care home or care service you have to be inspected by the cqc so I'd assume she would have to be inspected by them too

I will report for you if she is breaking the law. It depends what the regulatory body is.

isthiswalter · 03/07/2020 21:43

I actually emailed them asking if her service was registered and they said no, but I didn't reply and tell them she is claiming to be.

@cathcath2 it's the CQC

Once you said that she is working with vulnerable adults, then it should take away any doubts you have over reporting someone lying about being inspected by, and registered with such bodies.

You do not have to give your name or contact details.

You should tell them and say you wish to remain anonymous. If her Facebook is public link the post in the email. You could even send from a a new fake email.

Level 4 is an odd one , there used to be an RMA L4 award but it hasn't been delivered for a long time , there is actually a L4 coming out currently but noone will have reached completion on the new awards yet. So either her qualification is very old (and wasnt a support worker qualification but a managers one ) or she is lying.

(I'm a qualified assessor, whilst there are online level 4 qualifications they are not seen in the same light and are not worth the paper they are written on , a RQF / TQUK level 4 is the registered managers award from back in the day...its possible she has that but irrelevant )

Outstanding is an inspection criteria , you cannot achieve it without being regulated and inspected. Shes talking rubbish.

Report her.

She probably means well, but people might be using her services over another provider who might be more appropriate for them, based purely on the perceived higher standard of an accredited operator.

CherryPavlova · 03/07/2020 21:49

Her qualifications are irrelevant to whether she needs to be registered.
It really depends on what she’s providing.
Art and craft then no need to be registered.
Social club then no need to be registered

Providing personal care or offering ‘treatment’ she needs to be registered.

Odd to claim to be registered if she doesn’t need it and no law saying she cant claim she’s outstanding if she doesn’t need to be registered.

Use webform to say what she’s actually doing. Just working with vulnerable people doesn’t mean you need to be registered though. They can check.

isthiswalter · 03/07/2020 21:55

Thanks @cathcath2 I've filled in that form. At least the CQC can look into it.
