AIBU... By being a bit put out by mil saying my 22 month old is overweight.
She'd already said to OH to be careful with biscuits and he's already getting a gut.
He hasn't at all.
He was born 6lb 14oz, breast fed til 14 months.
He doesn't have chocolate (rarely) or processed foods, eats lots of Fruit and veg and is so active.
Hadn't weighed him for ages but did the other day, he was just under 2 stone, maybe about 26lbs...
Is that about right for a toddler?

My 23 month old is 28kg. He is big but on track from previous growth. He was breastfed and rarely gets treats.

dementedpixie · 03/07/2020 16:17

My ds was 21lbs by the time he was 6 months old!

dementedpixie · 03/07/2020 16:18

Do you mean 28kg or 28lb?

violetmartini · 03/07/2020 16:19

My 22 month old ds was 28lb when I weighed him a few weeks ago and he's not fat by any means

cuddlypenguins · 03/07/2020 16:22

My 8 mo DS is just under 24lb and doesn't look chubby at all as he's tall so I'm sure 26 isn't over weight for 22 months x

Monstamio · 03/07/2020 16:22

Have a look at the growth chart in his red book. It should show how he is plotting.

@Hohohole did you really mean 28kg?? Or lbs?

RedCatBlueCat · 03/07/2020 16:23

Google tells me an average 2 year old weights 26.5lb.
So I'd say he's about right.

I hope you mean lbs and not kgs! He'd weigh more than my six year old at 28kgs!

Ducky1900 · 03/07/2020 16:27

He's just under 2 stone, so that would make him about 26lbs...

@redcatbluecat thank you.
Just about to get his book out and have a look x

My four year old is 2st 4lb. Now I'm worried he's underweight!

Ducky1900 · 03/07/2020 16:34

I've just plotted in his book, he's on the 50th percentile, seems he's been steadily rising from 25th to 50th percentile since he was born.
That's OK right... I haven't ever understood percentiles.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 03/07/2020 16:36

If he's the 50th centile does that not make him bang on the average weight for his age?

notmyyacht · 03/07/2020 16:42

My son turns two at the end of the month and he's 25lbs and in the twenty-fifth percentile for weight if that's worth anything. People always says that he's a 'big guy', but he really isn't ... although he is tall I guess. Your son sounds fine! (And seriously, tell your MIL to stfu .. it's normal for toddlers to have big bellies!)

Ducky1900 · 03/07/2020 16:47

For reference... He's not overweight!
Thanks for the reassurance everyone!

What should a 22month old weigh?

Namechanger2099 · 03/07/2020 16:55

I don't think there's a normal weight for any baby to be honest. They have a "range", but babys come in all different shapes and sizes

DD was 17lb at 10 months old, she was a dainty little thing

DS was 17lb at 5 months old!!!

User24689 · 03/07/2020 17:05

If you look in his baby record book there should be growth charts (can be found online if not). If you plot his height and weight in there it will tell you his percentile and it should follow more or less the same line since birth. So if he was 70th percentile at birth it is fine for him to be 70th percentile now. That's just how big he is.

My own son is very tall and so very heavy compared to other 2 year Olds. But he was 90th percentile at birth and still is. His dad is 6ft 4. A lot of it is genetics.

Basically ignore your MIL!

Ducky1900 · 03/07/2020 17:08

I have to admit, I'm overweight and so is my mum, that's what she was getting at when she said, it's in the family.
Oh is 6ft and slim. So she meant it's in my family.

ArabSprings · 03/07/2020 17:10

She sounds mental. He looks and sounds bang on for his age

User24689 · 03/07/2020 17:15

Just seen your picture, he looks fine. Most toddlers have 'tummies', it's just where the weight goes.

Your MIL sounds rude!

doadeer · 03/07/2020 17:16

Oh my goodness looks perfect and weighs a totally normal amount. That's very rude of MIL

Hohohole · 03/07/2020 17:47

Ha sorry pounds. Imagine the size of him.

Subordinateclause · 03/07/2020 17:50

He looks like my 24 month old. She's on the 50th percentile.

PatsyStone39 · 03/07/2020 18:25

My 20 month old son is 29lbs and slim. He was about 97th centile for weight and height last time I checked. Don't worry yourself, your little guy sounds normal to me.
