Pram Selling Dramas

I have a beautiful Venicci travel system in immaculate condition and used for only a few months. Due to an upcoming house move and a pack of storage space I decided to sell it and get a stroller. I had a very interested buyer and held it for two weeks for her. It was initially priced at £500 no offers. I went out and bought a new pushchair and car seat, expecting to recoup the money spent when the travel system was sold. The buyer was unsure whether she would come Thursday or Friday. She then messaged on the Thursday asking if she could come "now". I didn't reply within 30 minutes as we were napping and was then blocked on everything.
Fast forward to today, I reduced the price to £480 with a mentality that I won't accept any less than £450 at a push.
A lady came today to view it and was offering £350 to take it tonight, saying that's all she has. I reluctantly said she could have it for £400 for a quick sale. She says she'll let me know but I expect it's out of her range.
AIBU to not want to lower the price or am I unlikely to sell at the price it is worth? I do need it gone and would like to have not gone out and spent money on a new pushchair that I could have used the cash for with our move, but I don't want to basically give it away.
What would you do?

If I wasn’t desperate I’d wait but I understand when buying/selling on ebay/Facebook ect people are looking for a bargain not full price items

Darkestseasonofall · 03/07/2020 12:26

You'll not get more than 20, maybe 25% of the original cost back of a 2nd hand pram, ever.

MamaLion1319 · 03/07/2020 12:28

It's near on a grand brand new. Just for context.

I only got £100 for my beautiful, pristine iCandy Apple system when I sold it many years ago and that included two branded fleece inserts and the foot muff things which alone were £50. The market for second hand prams is saturated sadly.

ConkerGame · 03/07/2020 12:29

Second hand furniture and items like prams tend to sell for quite a bit under their original price. If people wanted to spend full price or close to that they’d get it new. I’d accept the £350

Zhampagne · 03/07/2020 12:30

Sorry OP, but the depreciation on prams is awful. It’s only ‘worth’ what a buyer is willing to pay.

How much was it new?

LoisLittsLover · 03/07/2020 12:31

I wouldn't ever pay that for a second hand pram - it might look okay but you can't see any damage etc from rough handling and won't have any warranty. I think you need to lower your expectations

rottiemum88 · 03/07/2020 12:31

We paid similar for our iCandy Peach, around £1k new. I'd consider myself lucky to get £2-300 for it now and it's in great condition still 🤷🏼‍♀️ If you were reliant on the money then you shouldn't have bought the new pushchair and car seat until you'd sold it. Hold onto it for a bit if you can afford to, but it's still possible you won't get what you're hoping for it

Ah, cross-posted with you. £350 is painful so I wouldn’t blame you for holding out for £400. Remember that manufacturers’ warranties don’t usually transfer to the new owner so this is reflected in the price.
AriettyHomily · 03/07/2020 12:33

If it's not sold it's because it's too expensive, plus I cant imagine the whole CV situation helping second hand sales much.

MamaLion1319 · 03/07/2020 12:35

Thanks for the replies. I guess seeing as the first buyer had no qualms about paying £500 for it it's a bit disappointing to sell for so cheap. I do see a lot of other Prams up for similar prices when they cost £1000+ brand new. Everyone wants something for nothing these days, I'd be embarrassed if it was me!
For those saying I couldn't afford to, I could, it was just an unnecessary expenditure when moving house.

I'd recommend looking for a pram selling Facebook group, you'll get lots of advice and can sell on them too.

My bugaboo was snapped up on there for 100 quid and that was third hand!

Actually I had a lady coming 80 miles away yesterday. She was being driven by her BIL I didn't reply in time as it was last minute "can we come now" kind of thing and that fell through. I travelled 60 miles myself for a bargain pushchair.

It will sell for exactly what it is worth to someone who bothers to turn up with the money.

Meatshake · 03/07/2020 12:39

Aren't they only like £800 new? No way would you get more than £400 for it I'd say.

I just sold an iCandy all terrain (plus a crazy amount of accessories, used for 3 years and bought for about £1k) for £350 and an out n about double for £280 (1 year old, purchased for £500, awesome condition). Both of those amounts I was really pleased with.

Did you see what price similar second hand prams are listed at on ebay and Facebook? Is yours the one in Feltham? If so it's about 100-200 more than all the ones listed nearby...

Zhampagne · 03/07/2020 12:39

I’m not in the pram game these days so I have no idea of how well-known or desirable the brand is but there are Facebook groups for most brands and it might be worth posting there. I had a Joolz which was a bit niche and it was noticeable that they sold for less second-hand than eg Bugaboo despite being a similar price point new.

I’d be embarrassed if it was me!

Don’t be daft. You have no idea of your buyer’s circumstances. You both want the best possible price for you and you will have to meet in the middle somewhere.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 03/07/2020 12:39

They won't be able to use the car seat part of the travel system as it is against safety guidelines to use a second hand car seat, so that reduces the value anyway. Plus people don't want to spend £500 on an item that has been piss and shit in for months, this is why they depreciate in value so fast. I would grab the £350 and run! It's unlikely you will get that offer again!

They were never going to pay this OP, this is why you have been blocked on all their media.
Thehop · 03/07/2020 12:41

A thousand pounds isn’t unusual for a new pram sadly and they bring about 25% of that if you’re lucky second hand.

It’s gutting

MamaLion1319 · 03/07/2020 12:41

@Meatshake
No I'm
Not in Feltham. Similar type Prams go for the price I put mine up for, probably slower than the cheap ones. I made the mistake of holding it, hence losing other buyers.
It has additional accessories it's not just the big standards bits with it.

Thehop · 03/07/2020 12:41

The £350 offer was absolutely excellent.

Hingeandbracket · 03/07/2020 12:42

Except of course, for people who have an inflated idea of what their stuff is worth.
I have sold quite a few unwanted items on eBay - almost none realised the prices I estimated - some way more, some way less.

Nestofvipers · 03/07/2020 12:44

I guess seeing as the first buyer had no qualms about paying £500 for it it's a bit disappointing to sell for so cheap. clearly the first buyer did have qualms about paying £500 for it or you’d have sold it to her for £500.

I do see a lot of other Prams up for similar prices when they cost £1000+ brand new.. It’s not what they’re advertised for which is important here, it’s what they actually sell for. You have no idea whether the other prams up for similar prices actually sell for those prices if at all.

It’s only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Near on £1000 brand new, I wouldn’t expect to pay more than about £300 second hand whatever the condition is like.
