Air Bridges Scrapped!

The Air Bridge idea is in tatters and has finally been consigned to the dustbin. The UK very shortly will have a long list of 75 countries we will soon be able to visit coded by a traffic light system, with no quarantine needed whatsoever.

The system is designed to use the countries data on their infection rate (one would ask why they would feel the need to honest, if they rely heavily on tourism) and whether that data can be 'relied' on, and according the British Government that is practically everyone!

Only a handful of countries are on the red list. So we will be unable to travel there for the moment. US, Brazil and a few others.

It would be good to know the true thoughts of SAGE about this decision, which goes far beyond the original plan.

Now we can abandon social distancing on aircrafts and terminal airport buses and all the rest, does it now make social distancing anywhere completely pointless? If we are going back to pre lockdown numbers of arrivals and travellers what is the point?

Have we now given up on the idea of keeping control of infection? Track and trace is not working properly, so how we will manage future outbreaks?

What are you thoughts, are you booking a holiday today?

The financial situation will eclipse all of that for sure, if you don't know this already you are probably about to find out.

Unless Scotland can support itself financially then independence is never going to happen.

That will be much harder to achieve with a global recession - Scotland were not able to manage it in the most prosperous times. Having to choose between a very low standard of living with very few services or staying together as one country. Nicola knows this, which is why she is playing politics now.

@MaryLennoxsScowl
I agree with you. I wasn't for independence and don't vote SNP but I don't believe that NS is playing politics on this one. She has done so plenty of times previously, but not, in my view, on the pandemic. I have appreciated NS and her colleagues' clear and consistent approach and caution throughout, not perfect but they will admit that themselves. Why should she not do what she believes is the right thing for Scotland.

Back to the topic, I have a flight booked last year for later this year and I already know I won't want to go as I feel anxious at the thought of it.

Air bridges or so called ‘travel corridors’ now exist between over 50 countries and the U.K.!

If you need any more information I’ve made a website with all the info on it.
