On skincare?

Just that really. I've used lockdown to clear out years worth of gifts and half used products that i never stuck with. Now that i'm over the hill of 40 and noticing some dark circles, lines, etc i want to get a grip of my face.

So how much do you spend on skincare and any "can't live without" products?

(I have looked online a lot, but it's a bloody minefield!)

Not a lot. I make my own clay masks that I use twice a week. I have discovered oil cleansing during lockdown and it's transformed my skin (I use a mix of extra virgin olive oil and castor oil). I also use a vitamin C serum and then suncream and a moisturiser. It doesn't cost me a lot at all.

Pinkkgaga · 01/07/2020 23:42

Try ordinary skin care on cult beauty. Amazing

RaininSummer · 01/07/2020 23:44

Not a lot. I am 57 and currently flitting between Superdrug natural radiance range, Dr organic oil and face stuff and home made night cream.

Popc0rn · 01/07/2020 23:44

Atm £0. I've let myself go in lockdown Grin (even though I'm still working outside the house Blush).

So I haven't bought anything new, but I've put sunscreen on my face every morning (soltan 8 hour one, just the big standard bottle rather than the face one, which I think actually prefer, which is good cos it's a lot cheaper than the face version!).

Use garnier micellar water in the evenings, and no night cream as I've run out. Tbh my skin actually looks better than before I think Confused

Casmama · 01/07/2020 23:47

I think you would get pretty different answers if you asked this question in style and beauty! I have recently bought elemis superfood moisturiser - night cream and facial oil and they were about £70-80 for the two. Trialing some samples in the same range before i buy any more. You will no doubt find people on style and beauty spending hundreds!

BackforGood · 01/07/2020 23:48

Nothing.
I use cold water on my face.

Well, I would put sun cream on my face if going to be out in hot sun for more than an hour or so - are you counting that ?

HappyBumbleBee · 01/07/2020 23:49

My sister sirens a fortune on boots number 7 or any new products that come out - me in the other hand, not alot. I've loads of different pots and potions (thanks to my sis influencing me) but tend to just cleanse with neutrogena hydro boost miscellar water and aveeno ultra calming moisturiser once it twice a week. I hit my 40's and have suffered with spots like an average teenager ever since..... So I have to be so careful. (We think it's most likely a side effect of the mirena coil)

Jemma2907 · 01/07/2020 23:50

I spend practically zero. The only thing I use on my face are the boots sensitive wipes and that's to remove make-up (generally taken off the morning after i wear it). I wear makeup at least 5 out of 7 days a week, have no breakouts except for a couple of spots just before my period and am only just starting to see the beginning of lines around my eyes. I drink an absolute ton of water though so I guess that must help. I never grew up from my teenage skincare routine!

Jemma2907 · 01/07/2020 23:51

Oh I forgot to say, I'm 37 this month.

Boulshired · 01/07/2020 23:51

I have always had greasy skin, so whilst acne was a problem when younger I now get the benefits of less wrinkles. I spend £16 a year on foundation. Downside is shamoo I go through loads because I quickly get the chip pan look hair.

1stmonkey · 01/07/2020 23:53

You're all making me feel better. I've been using miscellar water and a basic moisturiser forever but just thought i should be doing more.
Love the look of The Ordinary but all seems so scientific that i've no idea where to start!

Nivea moisturiser with spf, couple of quid when on offer. Wash face with water in the shower. My skin looks better than my younger sister who lives in a hot country.
My daughter, however, spends a frightening amount on skincare and unfortunately, none of it makes any difference to her skin problems. So she's on a mission to find the next big miracle etc etc...more money down the drain.

ghostyslovesheets · 01/07/2020 23:55

£50 a month

ScubaSteven · 01/07/2020 23:56

My favourite skin care is Dermalogica and it can cost me about £200 for all the bits and pieces that I have to replenish every few months (2 to 3ish). That's for maybe 3 products.

When I had kids and had to cut back I changed to Boots No7 spending about £100
on 3 products every 2 months.

I've always suffered with acne of varying degrees and since lockdown started I've been to the drs to have it sorted. So at the moment it's cost me the price of 3 prescriptions for 2 months worth of antibiotics and a cream. My skin is too sensitive to use anything on it except for washing with Simple cleaner on a morning and just water at night. So about £30 at the most each month at the minute.

My skin has never been better since I stopped spending money on it! But once the acne is sorted I'll be going back to either Dermalogica if I can afford it and Boots if I can't. Might stick with the Simple cleaner though as it's lovely.

Mummyshark2019 · 01/07/2020 23:56

£0. Totally let myself go.

BelindaBl1nked · 01/07/2020 23:58

I use medical grade skincare and spend approximately £260 every 6 months. That's at cost price though (for various reasons) , it would be double that otherwise.

zdjg · 01/07/2020 23:59

I've tried to start a better skincare in lockdown as usually just wash my face with soap!
Got some bits from the body shop
Drops of light foam wash and drops of youth bouncing night cream have made a huge difference! My face feels brighter and the lines near my eyes and forehead seem to be tightening x I'm 32

Turkeydrumstick · 02/07/2020 00:01

Nothing. I’m really fortunate that I have good skin but I’m worried that when my luck runs out I won’t have a clue what to do! I use dermalogica tinted moisturiser as a foundation pre lockdown and a wet flannel to take it off.

DramaAlpaca · 02/07/2020 00:05

Honestly very little, I never have. Just a basic moisturiser with SPF15 and that's it. I was my face in water only and rarely wear makeup. I have good skin which is still quite unlined and I'm mid-50s. I prefer not to put much on it.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 02/07/2020 00:08

Nothing at all. I don't wear makeup, I don't moisturise or cleanse or whatever else you're meant to do with it. I just wash it in the shower.

Meggymoo777 · 02/07/2020 00:09

Kinvara oil cleanser (£25ish- lasts 3 months!!! used with hot cloth), Your Good Skin Toner (Boots, £5ish) Ordinary Serum (about £6 - find which one suits you!) and Kinvara Face Serum (£35ish - again, lasts 3months minimum!) It honestly feels like a treat and I look forward to cleaning my face every single day and will never use anything else, my skin has never looked better, so clean and clear and has made a huge difference to the appearance of pores. The Kinvara products really are incredible, all natural and a little goes such a long way! Please try them all! 🤗

Jemma2907 · 02/07/2020 00:09

Im a bit like that @turkeydrumstick I wouldn't have a clue if I had to start actually using product. I honestly don't see any benefit in them though anyway.

ChanklyBore · 02/07/2020 00:13

Warm water, flannel, spf20 moisturiser when I remember which was about £4 in Asda. Got some of the micellar water stuff which gets my mascara off. And that’s me making an effort, prior to the last few years everything just got washed with water, flannel and shower gel in the shower.

Perhaps £8 a year or so now. I’m in my late thirties. Big spender.

Auridon4life · 02/07/2020 00:14

Clinique actually works and the Aldi multi intensive serum does as well surprisingly . I'd suggest getting the charity box of miniatures from Clinique and see what you like about twenty pounds.

Bluebird3456 · 02/07/2020 00:16

I don't know if I'm allowed to promote someone (let me know if not and I'll report to have removed) but a friend of a friend runs @youglowgirlie on Instagram, she gives skincare advice for beginners and the products are affordable, I got sick of following beauty bloggers who recommend £200 creams etc.

Personally I have sensitive skin so I use Simple cleansing lotion and their protecting moisturiser with SPF, and I don't use a lot, so it costs me £3-5 (depending on offers) about every 4 months. I haven't dared to approach the retinol yet but I will take the plunge at some point!
