Caroline Hirons flogging her stuff via the BBC

Genuinely, why is this allowed?

Jo Whiley (radio 2 for those who don't know) is obviously mates with Caroline Hirons. So she gets her on for various interviews on her show which are not even thinly disguised marketing opportunities for CH.

Please can anyone describe to me how or why this is acceptable on the Beeb?

Yabu = yes, any BBC employed presenter can promote a vested interest's product with impunity.

Yanbu = no, the BBC is not a platform for advertising or marketing your mates products.

I get your point but anyone on the One Show, Graham Norton or any other chat show is there to plug something. They’d never get any guests otherwise.

Surely you could say the same about Radio 1 DJs, a lot of them have musical mates who come on and subsequently flog their albums.. tours etc..

The BBC regularly has authors on who have new books out. CH has a book out. Fern Britton had a book released a couple of weeks ago and she was Radio 2 promoting it. It’s how it works.

Chris Evans did this all the time on Radio 2. I’m not too bothered about it, my choice to buy or not.
