False allegations to claim legal aid

I know this is an old news story but if people are falsley claiming domestic abuse to get free legal aid should they be prosecuted

Am I being unreasonable to think this?

I think it is much more likely that women have downplayed things in the past for the sake of harmony and now they are not willing to.

I think its more likely the domestic abuse figures are the same but more people are in a poistion where they have to speak out about it so thet get legal aid. Previously thet may have tried to manage tge situation without bringing it up because they were scsred if the abuser.

Where is your outrage about all the abusers who arent being prosecuted

Where is the proof that they have falsley claimed though? Or is it that there wasnt enough proof to prosecute the abuser so it looks like a false claim due to lack of evidence?

I got legal aid in 2016 and to have it you had to have proof of DV. They check with the police too,

Who knows, but just to point out that Families Need Fathers have a very long-standing anti-women agenda. I'm sure there are many, many men who fail to understand that their behaviour is abusive.

As for your question its probably more likely that people are more open about domestic abuse. It's taken a little bit more seriously now (though not nearly dealt with enough) and so people feel more secure talking about it. Socially it's not so easily swept under the carpet as it was a few decades ago. Also the police and courts seem to be more aware of domestic abuse even if they aren't always good at dealing with it effectively.

It is extremely hard to get legal aid for domestic abuse. I know because I work within the legal aid service. They have to be able to prove it eg pictures, hospital visits, they have to have spoken to their GP about it and it has to have been logged with the police

The key takeaway from that article is that men don’t consider the behaviour they ADMIT TO (!) to being abusive.

When legal aid was removed for everything other than cases where domestic abuse was present then more women disclosed the abuse. It's not a case of making it up, more a case that they were forced to disclose to be able to ensure the safety of their children and themselves.
It's not like domestic abuse is rare is it?
